This year’s opening play was “Until I find a pla ce”, written by Guyanese playwright Ronald Hollinsworth and produced by Mahadeo Shi vraj. It was staged at the LICHAS Centre on Saturday, July 10th 2023 by the LICHAS C entre in Linden. This play was appreciated by the Guyanese audiences and the LICHAS production of it was well- crafted, thoughts were innovative, and a dramatic and emotion al adventure. This popular play made into film is an attempt to examine life in a pragmati c way, where by reaching out and lending a helping hand to a good friend caught in a cal amity can sometimes be to our detriment, even being repaid with ingratitude, the ruining of friendship and ultimately – as was in this case/play – the breakup of a marriage. Summary of Production Until ah find a place is one drama that Centre the attention on the story of a married man with a colourful sexual past starts a clandestine torrid love affair with his wife's friend w hile she is away on business. Upon his wife's return, she finds herself, the attention on th e story of until I find a place, The story begins with Dave (Mahadeo Shivraj) and Sonia (Alicia Persaud) living in Georgetown. One day, their tranquil existence is turned upside down when Sonia’s friend, Donna (Sonia Yarde) shows up at 3am and in need of a plac e to stay, as she claims that her home was destroyed in a storm. Dave is not happy with this arrangement, as he has past resentments towards Donna’s m eddling in the couple’s marital affairs. Donna, however, is welcomed by Sonia into the h ome until she is able to find a place of her own to stay. The situation takes a dramatic tur n when Sonia has to leave temporarily for the US, and Donna and Dave are left in the ho use alone. Every day Dave asks Donna when she is leaving and she says tomorrow. So o ne day, he says tomorrow never come, gets angry and puts out her bags. As the fight get heated, he ends up wrestling her down to the ground and the physical contact turns into a passionate lovemaking session.Which lead to a secret affair between the two. Analysis of the Production The technical elements give a positive influence on the production by setting the audienc e in the world of the play. The costumes were overemphasized, with conventional materi als such as (such as tables, benches, and chairs. And this provides to the supernatural effe ct. The lighting and sound changed throughout the movie to reflect the emotions of the m ain characters, Dave, and the movie was straightforward, which allows the viewers to foc us on the character and the storyline. The film , management of the play was smooth and productive, there was no lagging in the scene breaks or any disjointed adjustments. Addit ionally, Mahadeo Shivraj, who plays it, is truly a standout as he uses his body language,a s he does a well done job particularly in the way he uses his voice to expresses the charac ters horror and the drama that was being done which give us a feeling of realness from th e play, Which really assist the man like nature of his character also making his role more appealing than others . Together, these performances worked alongside the technical ele ment’s to enhance the supernatural and miracle elements of the movie. Altogether, the pr oduction team managed to organize an exciting and visual production that can be conside red an excellent and successful film. Impact of the production This production of until I find a place kept the audience engaged from the beginning to th e end. This was due to the action and the intensity of the movie and the performances of t he actors. However, it was also because of the presentation of the themes that are relevan t to modern Guyanese, especially the concept of Abuse and adultery which remains a con tentious issue in Guyana. Another factor for the audience being captivate issue in this wa y might be because of the bully-ism. Conclusion All- inclusive, this production of until I find a place that was staged by the LICHAS Cent er located in linden was magnificent charming, and gave the audience much ruminate ab out. It is a reminder that many excellent movies and even plays are still being produced i n Guyana today and that this people should really be more supportive about these types o f plays and movies produced by Guyana.
