Assignment 2
Research: Cancers in women
What is cancer?

Cancer can start any place in the body. It starts when cells grow out of control and
crowd out normal cells. This makes it hard for the body to work the way it should.

What cancer can be found in women?

The most common kinds of cancer among women are skin, breast, lung,
colorectal, and uterine.
Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the out-of-control growth of abnormal cells in the epidermis, the
outermost skin layer, caused by unrepaired DNA damage that triggers
mutations. ... The main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC),
squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC).
Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There
are different kinds of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer depends on which
cells in the breast turn into cancer.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one or both lungs.
These abnormal cells do not carry out the functions of normal lung cells and do not
develop into healthy lung tissue.
Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer (CRC), also known as bowel cancer, colon cancer, or rectal
cancer, is the development of cancer from the colon or rectum (parts of the large
intestine). A cancer is the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade
or spread to other parts of the body.
Uterine Cancer
Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the uterus. The uterus is
the hollow, pear-shaped pelvic organ where fetal development
occurs. Endometrial cancer begins in the layer of cells that form the lining
(endometrium) of the uterus. Endometrial cancer is sometimes called uterine
cancer.
