1.8. Public Affairs Index (PAI 2022)
The seventh edition of the Public Affairs Index (PAI 2022) was recently unveiled by the Bengaluru-based Public Affairs
Centre (PAC).
Key Highlights:
• Haryana best-governed a large state, assessing economic, political, and social justice.
• Top large states: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Karnataka.
• Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand at 16th, 17th, 18th positions.

• Sikkim leads 10 smaller states in governance, followed by Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
• Economic Justice: Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Karnataka excel; West Bengal lowest among large states, Sikkim tops

• Multi-dimensional parameters of India Rankings have successfully captured the quality and excellence of HEIs in India.
Key Highlights:
• Indian Institute of Technology Madras retains its 1st position in Overall Category for the fifth consecutive year, i.e. 2019
to 2023.
• The Top 100 in Overall category consists of 44 CFTIs/ CFUs INI, 24 state universities, 13 deemed universities, 18 private
universities, 4 agriculture and allied sector institutions, and 3 management institutions.
• Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

• Chinese ecosystems have experienced a decline in rankings.
• Positive Growth: Indian ecosystems, particularly Mumbai, Bengaluru-Karnataka, and Delhi

1.12. Global Terrorism Index 2023
On March 14, 2023, by the Institute for Economics and Peace, provides insights into global terrorism trends.

• Global terrorism deaths declined by 9% in 2022.
• India's rank at 13, indicating a slight decrease.
1.13. Safety Perceptions Index (SPI) 2023
Collaboratively released on February 22, 2023, by Lloyd's Register Foundation and the Institute for Economics & Peace, the
Safety Perceptions Index (SPI) places India at the 97th position. It sheds light on safety concerns globally.
1.14. SIPRI: Trends in International Arms Transfers 2022
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI)
• The five largest arms importers in 2018–22 was India (Top), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Australia and China.
• The five largest arms exporters in 2018–22 was the United States (Top), Russia, France, China and Germany.
1.15. Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2022
• Released by: NITI Aayog (Third edition)
• Aims: To become a global export player by promoting States and further districts as export hubs.
• The EPI 2022 Report evaluates the performance of the states across four pillars – Policy, Business Ecosystem, Export
Ecosystem, and Export Performance.
• Top-performers: Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat.
• Uttar Pradesh ranks 7th in EPI 2022 (Score 61.23).
1.16. Sustainable Development Goals Progress in India 2022
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in collaboration with various ministries and
stakeholders, has crafted the National Indicator Framework (NIF) dedicated to monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) at the national level.
• MoSPI releases “Sustainable Development Goals National Indicator Framework Progress Report” on 29th June every year.
• NITI Aayog has developed the SDG India Index mainly based on the NIF.
