COMMUNITY-BASED DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT

(Synchronous Class, November 18, 2023)

Instruction: In class, two groups will analyze Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction
Management (CBDRRM). Group one explores community preparedness, early warning systems,
capacity building and training, and collaboration and coordination. Group two examines resource
allocation and utilization, community engagement and participation, monitoring and evaluation, and
adaptability and innovation. Submit a brief presentation of your CBDRRM analysis by the end of the
session. Present the findings on November 25, 2023.

1. Assessment of Community Preparedness:


 How has the community assessed its vulnerability to various types of disasters?
 What measures are in place to gauge the level of preparedness among community
members for potential disasters?

2. Effectiveness of Early Warning Systems:


 How well does the community's early warning system function in providing timely and
accurate information about impending disasters?
 What feedback mechanisms are in place to evaluate the community's response to early
warnings?

3. Capacity Building and Training:


 To what extent have community members been involved in capacity-building initiatives for
disaster response and risk reduction?
 How effective are the training programs in enhancing the community's ability to cope with
and mitigate the impact of disasters?

4. Collaboration and Coordination:


 How is collaboration established among various stakeholders, including local authorities,
NGOs, and community members, in disaster risk reduction efforts?
 What mechanisms are in place to ensure effective coordination and communication during
disaster response activities?

5. Resource Allocation and Utilization:


 How are financial and material resources allocated for CBDRRM activities within the
community?
 What measures are taken to ensure the efficient and equitable utilization of available
resources?

6. Community Engagement and Participation:


 To what extent are community members actively engaged in decision-making processes
related to disaster risk reduction and management?
 How does the community encourage and sustain the active participation of diverse groups in
CBDRRM initiatives?

7. Monitoring and Evaluation:


 What metrics and indicators are used to evaluate the success of CBDRRM initiatives in the
community?
 How often are these initiatives reviewed and adjusted based on monitoring and evaluation
outcomes?

8. Adaptability and Innovation:


 How does the community demonstrate adaptability and innovation in response to changing
disaster risks and environmental conditions?
 What mechanisms are in place to incorporate new technologies and best practices into
CBDRRM strategies?
