Joy Grace Speech Reap
Joy Grace Speech Reap
a. What are the lessons that the School Heads Academy and the REAP has
given you?
Answer:
As the quotes says that in SCHOOL, WE’RE TAUGHT A LESSON and THEN
GIVEN A TEST, BUT IN LIFE WE ARE GIVEN TEST THAT TEACHES A
LESSON. Good morning, everyone. I am Mrs Joy Grace Ojerio Jara, 44
years old and from Bagi City Division, Bago City….. The School Heads
Academy and the REAP has given me not just the knowledge but the
exposure that has been my leaping step in gaining facts, information, and
skills acquired through personal experience and theoretical or practical
understanding not just on the program but on the process of doing the
program. My journey has been very challenging because of so many
challenges that needs great mental or physical effort in order to do the task
successfully and has tested my personal ability to shake off all the baggage
that’s hindering my goal to implement the project that has benefited and
aided the needs of my fellow teachers’ specifically in the field of ICT. The
financial burden of not having the support that I need did not stop me in
pursuing the project because this project is not about me, it is about these
teachers trying to cope with the huge changes that has been brought by the
pandemic. The new normal has dragged so much technology gap currently
exists in schools of the Philippines that is preventing its teachers from enjoying the
advantages provided by technology. That is why the E-Tudlo was born. The E-Tudlo
project aims to enhance the ability and the skills of the teachers to adapt the
challenging world of ICT and how to use them as an advantage and a weapon to
continuously do the task to educate learners despite the distance. The objectives
formulated for the success of the project is a product of not just hard work but the
strong will to implement it despite doing so much just to acquire financial aid. The
experience of selling cakes and other illonggo delicacies to my fellow teachers and on
the streets of Bago City, specifically in Bantayan Park did not create the loss of hope
that the project will not be push through despite it fueled me to do more, to be more
resourceful and became selfless. It taught me that IF THERE IS A STRONG
DETERMINATION, EVERYTHING WILL BE DONE IN GOD’S PERFECT TIME.
a.1. How did you apply the lessons gained from the program?
a.2. What are the ideas learned from the SHA that helped you in
conceptualizing your project?
SHA upholds and adheres to the DepEd’s vision, mission, mandate and core
values. The SHA’s vision and mantra helped me conceptualize the E-Tudlo project
along with the fact/s that an upgrade on the teachers’ skills in ICT is not just a
need but a necessity. Coaching teachers in techniques using computer
technology and online tools for years before the pandemic should have been
done. Teachers who weren’t prepared were the ones who had the worst
possible experience. The crafting of E-Tudlo is a necessity which should be
carried through not just in one session or training but for as long as
technology exists, so as the continuity of the project. There is a need for
teachers to be more effectively trained in technologies that make their
classes more engaging and relevant. There is a need to overhaul teacher
education. The goal of education should be creating an environment for
lifelong learning. We can’t blame infrastructure for everything. A well-trained
educator will be able to use whatever resources they have to connect with
students.
The question that’s often asked, I have a laptop, I have Word, can I teach
online? On the other end we had teachers who basically said, “were there
any rules or directives given to educators when all they have knowledge is on
Microsoft only?” It wasn’t as if there were no teachers available who had
been trained in education technology. We definitely need teacher education
to implement project-based learning using ICT. Teachers will learn to use
technology for their Diploma in Education, but then they can’t actually use
the technologies in their schools. WHY? Because teachers in low-performing
schools and I can say that no matter how good the training, if there is no
electricity in the lab or there is no internet connection, there are limits on
what can get done.
a.3. How are you supposed to pass on the lessons learned from the SHA to
your colleagues, your learners and your community in general?
a.4. After joining the SHA, what are the changes in your perspective as a
school leader?
adhere to the DepEd’s vision, mission, mandate and core values; b. contribute to the attainment of
the DepEd Region VI’s mantra; c. employ a systematic set of activities towards the achievement of
the specific objectives of the program; d. adopt a research-based curriculum standards implemented
by the partner SUCs/HEIs that incorporates in the learning competencies, domains and strands of
the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH); e. employ participatory method
