Astronaut Amigurumi
Introduction
Create Roberta the Astronaut with this pattern! To see the photos in more detail, just zoom in on your PDF reader!
The difficulty level of this pattern is Intermediate. This pattern in written in US crochet terminology. The finished toy
measures to be about 7.5 in (19cm) tall.
I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran for this toy, but you can use any cotton yarn as long as you correspond your hook to
the weight of your yarn. For this pattern, I used roughly 40g of Misty Grey (a little less than one skein of yarn), 18g of
Dolphin Blue (< half a skein of yarn), 10g of Melon Sorbet (< 1), and 35g Champagne White.

Place a stitch marker on the faux stitch that is created when you do the seamless join. This marker marks the
first corner of the backpack. Mark the other 3 corners by counting the stitches between the markers. There
should be 17 stitches down the sides between each marker, and 14 stitches between the markers on the top
and bottom.

Backpack Back Panel
with Champagne White yarn
1 Ch17, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 15sc, turn [16]
2-18 sc in all sts, turn [16]
19 15sc, sc3 [18]
20 54sc around the sides and bottom of the backpack
piece.
Down the side: 17sc, across the bottom: sc3 in the corner,
14sc, sc3, up the side: 17sc, sc3 into the first st of Row 19
(this is now the end of your round)
• When you get to the corner, you will be working the 3-stitch corner of the back panel with the 1-stitch
corner of the backpack.
Do so by: (inserting your hook into the next back panel stitch (FLO), the backpack’s corner stitch (BLO),
YO and draw up a loop) x 3 until you have done that for all 3 of the back-panel corner stitches. You
should have 4 loops on your hook, YO and draw the loop through all 4 of the loops on your hook.
• Continue slip stitching all the way around, making sure to stuff the backpack before completely closing
the hole off.
• When you finish the final sl st, fasten off and weave tails in.
Belt Strap
with Melon Sorbet yarn
1 Ch35, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in the rest of the ch [34]
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Assembly:
• Pin the Body onto the Head and sew in place.
• Pin the Chest Control Panel onto the front of the chest and sew in place. Do not sew the Shoulder
Straps down.
• Connect the ends of the Shoulder Strap together by sewing the ends to each other towards the back of
the Head. Sew the Strap onto the centre of the backpack. I sewed mine on 7 rows from the top.
• Lay the Belt Strap across the belly to determine the placement. Sew both ends of the Belt Strap onto
the Backpack. For the end that doesn’t have a tail for sewing, just weave the tail end (from the end
that does) through the Backpack and have it come out on the other side.
• Pin the Shoulder Patches onto the shoulders and sew in place.
• Pin the Leg Patches onto the legs and sew in place.
