LESSON PLAN IN EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

Content: EARTH MATERIALS AND PROCESSES: Endogenic Processes

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of the folding and faulting of
rocks.

Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to construct a Venn Diagram to compare and
contrast the formation of the different types of igneous rocks.

Learning Competency: The learners compare and contrast the formation of the different types of
igneous rocks. (S11/12ES-Ic-18)

Objectives: The learners…

Construct a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the formation of the

different types of igneous rocks.

Materials: Projector, Laptop, Speaker, White screenboard, Manila Paper, Pentel Pens,
Tape,Stones/Rocks

References: Earth & Life Science Textbook, Youtube, Google

Developmental Activities:

A. Elicit

Review the classification of rocks. Let the students relate their previous learning on igneous rocks
to the present lesson on the formation of the different types of igneous rocks.

B. Engage

Present different samples ofstones/rocks. Ask the question:How do you think were these rocks
formed?

C. Explore

Let the students perform the activity following the procedures in the Activity Sheet. (Another
option: Watch the video on Igneous Rock Formation throughhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=No2vzMT3IC0and answer the following questions)

1. What are the two types of igneous rocks?

2. Describe the similarities and difference of each type.
3. Give examples of each type.

D. Explain

Each group will present and explain their collaborative work.

E. Elaborate

1. What are the two types of igneous rocks?

2. What are the similarities and differences of the two types of igneous rocks?
3. Can you site some examples of each type?

F. Evaluate

Construct a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the formation of the different types of igneous
rocks.

G. Extend
Research how rocks behave under different types of stress such as compression, pulling apart and
shearing. Write your findings on your science notebook.
