Educational Tour Narrative Report

I. Executive Summary

As a first-year student of hospitality management, I got a chance to participate in the educational

tour organized by the Laguna State Polytechnic College of Hospitality Management and Tourism. The
tour took place on January 3-4 and included visits to various establishments to learn more about the hotel
and hospitality industry. The first day of the tour involved visits to the Dessert Museum, Vikings for lunch,
and the Hilton Hotel for a hotel familiarization program that included a seminar on various career
opportunities in the hotel industry. The second day involved breakfast at the hotel, a visit to the Magsaysay
Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) for a seminar on career opportunities in the cruise ship
industry, and a stop at the Mall of Asia for dinner before concluding the educational tour.

II. Introduction

As a hospitality management student, I recently went on an educational tour that primarily focused
on hotel familiarization. It was an excellent opportunity for us to explore our potential future workplace
and gain a deeper understanding of the industry. During the tour, we had the privilege of listening to
various speakers who shared their personal experiences and insights on how they achieved success in the
hospitality field. Their stories were truly inspiring and motivating, and I believe that everyone who
attended the tour felt the same way. It was fascinating to hear about the different challenges they faced,
the strategies they used to overcome them, and the valuable lessons they learned along the way. Overall,
the tour was a great learning experience that provided us with valuable industry knowledge, motivation,
and inspiration to work hard and achieve our goals.

III. Itinerary

On January 3, 2024, our educational tour started at 3:00 AM. We left around 4:30 AM and had our
first stop at SLEX where we enjoyed a delicious burger steak breakfast from Jollibee. We spent some time
there before moving on to our next destination, the Dessert Museum. We arrived at approximately 9:00
AM and had plenty of time to explore the museum's various exhibits. Afterward, we headed to Vikings, a
well-known buffet restaurant, for lunch. Here we had a vast array of food options to choose from. After
our meal, we went to the Hilton Hotel where we attended a seminar. We were fortunate enough to listen
to experienced speakers who shared their personal experiences on how they landed their current positions.
We also had the opportunity to tour the hotel and learn about its various operations, including basic
housekeeping skills such as changing bedsheets, making beds, and folding towels. The hotel provided us
with snacks during the seminar. After the seminar, we were given time to check-in in our hotel rooms
before being called back to the conference room at 6:30 PM for dinner. After dinner, we had some free
time to explore the hotel before calling it a night.

On our second day, January 4, 2023, we had breakfast at the Kusina buffet in the hotel. After
breakfast, we checked out at 10:00 AM and headed to our next destination, the Magsaysay Center for
Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA). We participated in a seminar that started with a cooking
demonstration. The seminar continued with the speakers sharing their personal experiences in the cruise
ship industry and discussing the various career opportunities available in the industry. During the seminar,
we were served a four-course meal, including an appetizer, soup, main dish, and dessert at approximately
2:00 PM. After the seminar, we headed to the Mall of Asia for dinner and free time to explore the mall.
Our educational tour concluded with our time at the mall.

IV. Activities and Experiences

A. Museum
- The Dessert Museum is a popular destination that has been making waves on social media
lately. Upon visiting the museum, I was delighted to find myself surrounded by an array of
delectable desserts, all of which were beautifully crafted and meticulously displayed. As I
explored the museum, the childlike wonder that I experienced was truly unparalleled. There
were several activities that transported me back to my childhood, such as interactive exhibits
and delightful photo opportunities. Overall, it was an incredibly fun and unique experience that
I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a sweet, whimsical adventure.
B. Vikings
- During our lunch at Vikings, I felt a bit overwhelmed due to the large number of people present,
including many other students like ourselves. Additionally, the sheer variety of food options
available left me feeling a bit flustered. Looking back on the experience, I realize that I wasn't
able to fully enjoy the buffet as much as I had hoped, given my sensitive palate and stomach.
Unfortunately, I couldn't eat as much as I wanted to without experiencing discomfort.
C. Hotel
- As it was my first time visiting a hotel, I was left awestruck upon setting my eyes on its
magnificent exterior and interior structures. The grandeur and the elegance that emanated from
the building were truly mesmerizing. Once we checked in, I was amazed by the spacious and
comfortable room where we would be staying. The staff was exceptionally friendly,
accommodating and always ready to help us with anything we needed. We felt truly welcomed
and at home during our entire stay.
D. MICAH
- I was recently introduced to the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA)
for the very first time, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw. The
state-of-the-art facilities were simply amazing and the staff were incredibly accommodating,
making my experience all the more enjoyable

V. Challenges and Learnings

During the tour, I can say that there were no challenges at all for me. It was an enjoyable trip and
full of learnings and realizations. During the hotel familiarization tour that I recently attended, the speakers
shared their inspiring journey to success. They talked about how they faced numerous challenges and
obstacles in their path before reaching their current position. As someone who is also trying to navigate
their career path, hearing about their struggles and success stories was quite motivating. One of the key
takeaways that stood out to me was their advice to "do what you believe is great work" and to "love what
you do". The speakers emphasized how important it is to be passionate about the work you do and to
always strive for excellence. Overall, the experience was enlightening and gave me a fresh perspective on
how to approach my career aspirations.

VI. Recommendations

The trip was enjoyable, but time management was a challenge. There was a point where we arrived
early, but we had to wait inside the bus, which felt like a waste of time. Additionally, the itinerary was
quite packed, and the time allotted for each activity was a bit limited, which made it feel a bit rushed and
hectic.

VII. Acknowledgments

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to God for keeping us all safe throughout our off-
campus hotel familiarization trip. I also want to acknowledge my family for providing me with financial
support to be able to participate in this educational tour.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Charmine V. Rivera, the dean of our
department, Mrs. Leslie T. Salazar, our adviser, and all the professors and staff of the College of
Hospitality Management and Tourism who made this trip possible. I am also thankful for the support and
assistance provided by the Leap and Smile Travel & Tours team who were with us every step of the way,
from the beginning until the end of our itinerary.

VIII. Conclusion

I had a great time during the tour and learned a lot from the speakers' personal experiences. Their
stories of facing challenges and overcoming obstacles to reach their current positions were inspiring and
motivating. As someone who is trying to navigate my career path, listening to their struggles and success
stories was quite motivational. One of the key takeaways was their advice to "do what you believe is great
work" and to "love what you do". They emphasized the importance of being passionate about your work
and always striving for excellence. Overall, the experience was enlightening and gave me a fresh
perspective on how to approach my career aspirations.
