Romesa Kamran – Personal Statement

Hospitality is simply a chance to show love and care, where guests would probably forget your
sayings but could never forget the way they are treated. Being from an eastern Asian country, my
culture itself gives high importance to the treatment of guests and take great pleasure in doing it
by showcasing our culinary skills, cuisine’s exclusive food and providing the best care.

Since my childhood, I enjoy the gesture of hospitality and felt great joy to host gatherings. As I
was growing up, I started being optimistic, my career prospects kept changing every year until
when I studied Travel and Tourism and got several opportunities that always drew my attention
to this field. Several events completely changed my perspective about the industry, and so I
comprehended that the tourism industry is a higher, complex and vibrant sector especially living
in Dubai, where tourism is the key source of generating income.

I contemplated whether hospitality was really what I was meant to work in, and from experience
and circumstances, I came to a realization that the tourism industry is where I truly belonged,
interacting with people around me, providing the best advice I can, working in teams,
showcasing my leadership qualities and hence Hospitality management is a career which has
always caught my eye in the midst of all other career options.

Subsequently, two years later I appeared for my GCSE exam in Travel and Tourism, and I was
able to score the highest grade in my school and thus, got chosen to do an Internship at the
Marriott Ritz Carlton Hotel, Dubai. Moreover, we were shown all different departments in a
hotel and how they are handled under supervision. The first day, we got to experience the
Caravan and Culinary department, where it was fun interacting and learning new skills with the
staff. The next day, we got to do housekeeping and laundry, where we got to see and learn the
efforts put in by the staff to maintain hygienic standards set by the hotel. Finally, after working
behind the scenes, we got the opportunity to interact with guests by working in the front lobby,
guest relations, and recreation, where we were taught ways of greeting and treating guests as
well as ways of promoting products like souvenirs sold in their gift store. Being granted a
certificate for the experience was one of my proudest and most cherished moments I ever
experienced.

Apart from my academics, I take pleasure in participating in voluntary work every year like the
‘Back to school’ edition campaign, in which we pack 50,000 school bags for the Syrian refugees
and the ‘Walk for Education’ for children around the world who walk great distances to go to
school. I have also taken part in sports carnivals, Shakespeare plays and innovation fairs held in
the school premises. Besides volunteering, I had also given The Trinity College of London's
Communication Skills exam, where I was able to attain a Distinction. Finally, after months of
waiting, I also received my GCSE results and was proud to know I achieved an A with Grade 1
Speaking in English as well as an upper A in Travel and Tourism.

After plenty of research, I have seen tremendous growth in the tourism industry in regards to
Aviation, Accommodations, Caterers, Event organizers, and Transportation, all situated close to
the customers/tourists, to make it as convenient as possible. Although the most arising concerns
may strike the industry significantly, such as natural disasters and health hazards, as it would
lead them into a great loss. Additionally, Marketing and Promotion are of high value to make
sure the customer's lifestyle and meticulous needs are catered, and they are able to maintain

brand image and loyalty by showing their enhanced communicative skills of persuasion,
problem-solving and hence put complete effort to acquire them. I am a hardworking and
organized individual who is prepared for the challenges associated with this management
program and thus I strongly believe this program will facilitate my career aspirations.

I believe studying in a renowned and accredited university in the UK can provide adequate
knowledge about International Hospitality and Tourism Management which can unlock great
opportunities, as they hold few of the top universities globally. Provided that, I plan on
completing my masters in Aviation and Tourism Management and continuing my vocational
journey in the UK.
