water (in tubes) at a rate 5 kg/s from 30ºC to 50ºC. Hot brine at 90ºC is available
at the rate of 2.5 kg/s for the purpose. It is made to flow throungh the sell. Tobes
of 2 cm diameter are available, and the pumping power requirement restricts the
flow velocity inside the tubes to 0.35 m/.The overall heat-transfer coefficient is
1550 W/𝑚2 𝐾. The length of a single tube is restricted to 2 m, determine the
number of tube pases to be used, the total number of tubes in one pass, and the
length of the tubes required

2. A cross-flow exchanger consists of 40 thin-walled tubes of 1 cm diameter located

in a duct with a cross section of 1m*1m. There are no fins attached to the tubes.
Cold water (cp=4180 J/kgºC) enters the tubes at 18ºC with an average speed of
3m/s while hot air enters the channel (cp=1010 J/KgºC) at 130ºC and 105 Kpa at
an average speed of 12 m/s determine the outlet temperatures of the two fluids
and the heat transfer rate

3. During normal operation, the value generated within the computer is transferred
to the dielectric fluid that passes through the computer at a flow of 4.81 kg/s. In
turn, the fluid passes through the tubes to the heat exchanger and the heat is
transferred to the water that passes over the tubes. It can be assumed that the fluid
dielectric has constant properties cp = 1040 J/kg • K μ= 7.65 kg/s and an inlet
temperature of 5°C passes over the tubes. Water has a specific heat of 4200 J/kg
• K and provides an average convection coefficient of 10,000 W/m2 •K on the
external surface of the tubes
If the heat exchanger consists of 72 thin-walled tubes, each 10 mm in diameter,

opposite direction at a rate of 0.1 kg/s. The oil enters the cooler at 180ºC and
