BEYOND THE SCOREBOARD
In the grand tapestry of
human endeavors, few
spectacles resonate as
powerfully as athletic
competitions. From the
thunderous roar of stadiums to
the quiet determination etched
on the faces of competitors, the
world of sports is a canvas where
dreams are painted in the vibrant
hues of victory and defeat.
What is the true relevance of
winning?
Though winning speaks of
strength,potential,and excellence
,a mere footnote it is against the
values of teamwork,
determination, fellowship and
discipline. While these virtues
undoubtedly form the bedrock
of athletic pursuits, the
significance of winning extends
far beyond the fleeting moments
of glory.
Every victory tells a story of
sacrifice—countless hours of
training, overcoming setbacks,
and pushing the limits of physical
and mental endurance. It's a
celebration of the human spirit's
capacity to transcend obstacles
and achieve the extraordinary.

In the broader cultural
landscape, winning serves as a
mirror reflecting society's values and
aspirations. It embodies the ethos
of competition, innovation, and
progress, driving individuals and
nations to reach greater heights.
Whether it's breaking world records,
clinching championships, or
achieving Olympic glory, winning
symbolizes humanity's ceaseless
quest for excellence and
advancement.
Yet, amidst the jubilation of
victory, it's crucial not to overlook the
lessons that it brings. Failure is not a
setback but a stepping stone
towards future success. It teaches
humility, resilience, and the
importance of perseverance in the
face of adversity. In essence, losing is
not the opposite of winning but an
integral part of the journey towards
it.
In a world that often measures
success solely by tangible
outcomes, the relevance of winning
in athletic games lies in its ability to
transcend the superficial and touch
the very essence of the human
spirit. It's about the relentless pursuit
of excellence, the indomitable will to
overcome obstacles, and the
profound impact it leaves on
individuals and communities alike.
So, the next time you witness a
team hoisting the championship
trophy or an athlete standing atop
the podium, remember that their
victory signifies more than just a
triumph in a game. It's a testament
to the resilience of the human spirit,
the power of perseverance, and the
boundless potential that lies within
each of us.

Exemplary
Collaboration
Hosting a regional and big event like
the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic
Association (EVRAA) Meet is a leadership
and management test among the
Department of Education (DepED),
government officials, and other
stakeholders. Ormoc City passed that
test with flying colors shown by their
exemplary collaboration.
With a world-class stage set up to a
star-studded Opening Ceremony,
Ormoc City showcased how to capture
the taste of good branding and
advertisement, and rightful start which
was truly encouraging and inspiring for
the student-athletes, coaches, and
technical working group.
Playing venues and billeting schools
are strategically organized compared to
the previous hosting in 2019. Ormoc City
learned from experiences and leveled it
up. Ormoc City is a good example of
doing things with precise planning and
coordination. For sure, the next host
division will have a challenging job.
This year, Ormoc City introduced
customized medals for winning athletes
and the EVRAA mascot. The host city
division exemplified a proper way of
giving importance to the sacrifices of our
athletes. It may seem a gimmick, but we
cannot deny that our athletes and
coaches appreciate the efforts of Ormoc
City.
However, there are points to improve
that the next host must consider.
Officiating officials must have working
tables, chairs, and adequate tents. The
next host must consider allocating more
areas for medical teams, especially in
track and field venues. It is hard serving
two events that are held end-and-end of
the oval.
Also, the next host division must
organize areas for media and local
reporters who are covering the events.
Officiating officials must be trained in
how to communicate with manners with
the media team. Officiating officials
must not be rude. They must adhere to
standards of good manners even under
stress and pressure.
We hope that the next host division
will emulate the good practices of EVRAA
Meet 2024. Ormoc City did a very good
job. However, points to improve must
be put into consideration during the
planning phase for the next EVRAA
Meet. It has been said that improving is
a process of repeated experiences.
When things go wrong today, make sure
it will not be repeated the next time
around.

head of the Leyte delegation collectively
known as the Roaring Lions during the
Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic
Association (EVRAA) Meet, the Leyte Light

inspiring message to the learner-athletes
