1 + 24 V supply (to motor, from VMCU (Vehicle Master Control Unit))

4 + 24 V supply (to LIN, from CIOM (Cab I/O Module))

Description
The purpose of the electrical steering column lock is to lock the steering wheel to prevent steering
function when the key is removed from the key switch and thereby preventing theft of the vehicle.
The matching of the ESCL to the vehicle is done by programming the VMCU. The matching can only
be done once.
The ESCL is integrated into the steering column housing. It is secured with two shear screws to the
steering column. The supply and communication connector used on the ESCL has a 4-pin and socket
housing. The ESCL uses an electric motor to drive a helical curve wheel via a worm gear. A lock-bolt
is suspended on the helical curve and is actuated when the wheel rotates.
The status of the ESCL is monitored using two hall sensors, both located at the unlocked position to
ensure correct unlocking. To unlock, an encrypted message reaches the ESCL and is checked by a
micro controller before the unlocking process starts. The locking process does not use an encryption
procedure.

Note
The ESCL is a safety critical component and must be handled with care. If the ESCL is
dropped it must be discarded.
