ACTIVITY 2
So the movie shows different types of youth. The first one is willing to sacrifice
his life to fight against the government. He embodies the essence of being Filipino, as
even though he was already captured and tortured to death, he never uttered a single
word about his group, who were also against Marcos. He also had another chance to
live a new life but never took it. Instead, he stood firm with his principles; according to
him, “if they did not do something, then what would happen to them? ”He also added, "If
not now, then when?" When is the time they need to make a change?
Another youth portrayed in the film fights against the government through paper
and pen, while others engage in rallies against Marcos. He, on the other hand, uses
paper and pen to protest against the government, writing about its cruelty.
The other youth represent normal youths who only want to enjoy their younger
years. However, it was cruel for them to enjoy since they were imprisoned—not literally
behind bars, but imprisoned because of the strictness of the Marcos government. This
is evident since one youth was killed after his release from prison, and his parents are
trying to find justice for his death. However, justice was not served right at that time.
2. Do you think Rizal would be happy to see the youth portrayed in the movie? Why?
Yes, especially the bravery showcased by these activist youth, Jules and Eman,
who protested the government in various ways. Jules fought the government through
rallies, while Eman fought through paper and pen. The bravery shown by the youth will
make Rizal proud and happy to see that his beloved country is loved and protected by
the youth. These youths would be a living testament to what Rizal said: The youth are
the hope of the nation.
3. Make a simple poem comparing the youth today and the youth portrayed in the
movie.
