Module IV: Fire safety System for Hotels


FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENTS
ASAP
• Fire Extinguishers: These come in various types such as water extinguishers, foam
extinguishers, dry chemical powder extinguishers, CO2 extinguishers, and wet
chemical extinguishers. Each type is suitable for different classes of fires (Class A, B, C,
D, and K).
• Fire Hoses and Nozzles: Used for delivering water or foam to extinguish fires.
• Fire Hydrants: Fixed water outlets connected
to a water supply system. They are
strategically placed in buildings and cities to
provide a quick water source for firefighters.
• Fire Sprinkler Systems: Automatic firefighting
systems installed in buildings.
• Fire Fighting Vehicles: These are specialized
vehicles equipped with water tanks, pumps,
hoses, and other firefighting equipment.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Including firefighting suits, helmets, gloves,
boots, and breathing apparatus to protect
firefighters from heat, smoke, and other
hazards.
• Fire Safety Signage: Signs indicating the location of firefighting equipment, emergency
exits, assembly points, and other important information.
SPECIAL PROTECTED AREAS IN HOTELS

• Fire Refuge Areas: Fire refuge areas are designated locations within the building
where occupants can seek temporary shelter during a fire emergency. Fire refuge
areas provide are safe for occupants to wait for rescue or evacuation instructions from
firefighters.
• Fire Control Rooms: Fire control rooms are
centralized locations within the building
equipped with fire detection, alarm, and
suppression systems. These rooms are staffed
by trained personnel who monitor fire
alarms, emergency communications, and
building systems to coordinate response
efforts.
• Firefighting Shafts: Firefighting shafts are
vertical passages or chutes specifically
designed to facilitate the movement of
firefighting equipment, hoses, and personnel
between floors of a high-rise building. These
shafts are constructed with fire-resistant
materials.
