Homework # 3

Date Assigned: May 24, 2022 Date Due: May 26, 2022

A three-phase Y-Y transformer is rated 225-kV:24-kV, 400 MVA and has a series reactance

of 11.7 Ω/phase as referred to its high-voltage terminals. The transformer is supplying a load

of 325 MVA, with 0.93 power factor lagging at a voltage of 24 kV (line-to-line) on its low-

voltage side. The transformer is supplied from a feeder whose impedance is 0.11 + j 2.2

Ω/phase connected to its high-voltage terminals.

a) Sketch the single line diagram of the given energy system.

b) For these conditions, calculate

(i) the line-to-line voltage at the high-voltage terminals of the transformer,

(ii) the line-to-line voltage at the sending end of the feeder,

(iii) the total active and reactive power provided by the source (that is the power

provided from the sending end of the feeder).

c) If the above problem is stated with the only difference being the winding connection

configuration changing from Y-Y to Y-Δ, how would all the results change? Discuss and

show the differences if any.
