 ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

Part I (40%)

PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to enhance learners’ understanding on the application of
microeconomic theories in making decisions.

REQUIREMENT
Answer all the questions.

QUESTION 1 (CLO1)

a. Explain the definition of the production possibility curve and the assumptions that used in
explaining the concept with the aid of diagrams.Production Possibility Curve(PPC) is a curve
that shows the maximum combination between two different types of goods which can be
produced by a firm or society based on the limited factors of the production (raw material and
resources) and existing technological development (which does not influence output). In an
economic situation, PPC is derived due to scarcity. Hence choice has to be made for maximum
combination of output while identifying the opportunity cost at each combination. Assumptions
made in explaining PPC are there are only two types of goods, factors of production are
limited, level of technology is fixed and the economy is at maximum efficiency. Below figure
1.1 shows an example PPC for production of Rice and Sugar.

b. Using the production possibility curve, briefly explain the following situations:

the quantity of goods and P is the price.
