LESSON LOG
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The Learners demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of light.
B. Performance Standard The Learners shall be able to suggest proper lighting in various activities.
C. Learning The learners should be able to infer that light travels in a straight line.
Competencies/Objectives S7LT-IIIg-11
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. Understand that light travels in a straight line.
2. Conduct simple experiments to investigate how light travels.

IV. PROCEDURES
ELICIT Prepare the class before the students come in.
Put a small hole on a black colored paper.
Tape the paper on one window on the classroom. (Darken the
room as much as possible)
Have the students observed the beam of light coming through
the hole.
ENGAGE Ask the students the following questions:
What do you see?
What can you observe on the beam of light?
Is the beam of light straight?
Does it bend around things?
EXPLORE Divide the students into groups. Cardboard from milk packages can
Give each group with 3 index card (with a hole at the center) also be used as an alternative to index
and clay. card.
Have them stand the cards using the “luwad” or clay.
Tell the students to pull a string on the index card to make sure “Luwad” or clay can also be used if it
that the holes are aligned. is available in the area.
Instruct the students that they are going to prove that light
travels in a straight path. Use the rubric on LM page 63-64.
One member of the group will hold a sheet of paper at the back
of the index cards.
Another student will light a flashlight at the other end.
Group members will trade places and repeat the procedures until
all of them had a turn to use the flashlight.
Encourage groups to try moving one of the cards. Ask them
what they noticed.
EXPLAIN Each group will be presenting the outputs based on the activity Manila paper, marking pen
performed. Rubrics will be use.
Key questions: Presentation of ideas – 50%
1. What happens when you shine a flashlight on the index cards? Teamwork - 20%
2. What does the flashlight represents? Output – 30%
3. What will happen if you move one of the cards? Why is that?
4. Does light travels on a straight path?
ELABORATE Explain that light travels in a straight line in a form of beam or Power point Presentation.
ray.
Additional information:
Light travels at a speed of 186,000 miles (300,000 kilometres) per
second through a vacuum such as space. At this speed, it takes 8 minutes
for sunlight to reach Earth. The starlight we see in the night-time sky
may have left that star millions of years ago. By the time the light
reaches our eyes, the star may no longer exist!
EVALUATE Let the students think of scenarios or situations where they can observe Pen and paper
how light travels. Let them explain what happens in those particular
answers. (minimum of 5 scenarios/situations)
EXTEND Perform the “Light and Shadow Walk” (see attachment)
