What is a transformation? What have you
previously learned about translations?

Transformations
A transformation is a change in the position, shape
or size of a figure.
In a transformation, the original figure is the preimage. The figure after the transformation is call the
image.

Transformations
The pre-image is triangle ABC. The image is
triangle ABC.

Translation
A translation is a transformation that maps all
points of a figure the same distance in the same
direction (slide).

Translation Rule
(x, y) (x + a, y + b)
Where:
a = the amount the graph is going right (+) or left (-)
b = the amount the graph is going up (+) and down (-)
