Geometry Transformation
Transformation means change and geometry is related to shapes,
lines, points and their measurements. Geometric transformation is a
change in the position and size of an object or object in a geometric
plane such as a line, point or curve. Because it is related to lines and
points, this geometric transformation can be written in Cartesian or
matrix coordinate form. Types of Geometric Transformations
Geometric transformations are divided into four types

Sample Problem: Translations

Point A of a star is translated by

the vector [8, 4] so that we can -
get the end point by summing the
translation vector with the starting
point.

Reflection
Have you ever
looked in a mirror?
What did you find
from the mirror?
What is the
meaning of
“Reflection”?
Reflection is one type of translation.

This type of translation is called reflection

because it flips the object across a line by
keeping its shape or size constant.
Take a look at the picture
below! From the picture, you can tell that:
1. The circle is congruent with its shadow, i.e. the circle .
2. The distance of each point on the circle Q to the mirror is equal to
the distance of each its reflection points to the mirror, namely QA =
Q’A and PB = P’B
3. The angle formed by the mirror with connecting lines
Each point to its shadow is a right angle.

These are the properties of reflection.

Using these properties, you
can determine the image of a
point reflected against a line
or against another point.

Take a look at the following

Practice questions

Define the shadow of ABCD quadrangle with

angle points A(2, 4), B(0, 5), C(1, 8), and D(1, -
3) if:

a) Reflected against the point of origin

b) Reflected against the y=2 line
The Discussion:
A(2, 4), B(0, 5), C(1, 8), and
D(1, -3)

a) Reflected against the point of

origin

b) Reflected against the y=2 line

The Conclusion:
a) Reflected against the point of
origin

So, the coordinates of the angular points shadow of ABCD quadrangle are A’(-
2, -4), B’(0, -5),
C’(-1, -8). and D’(-1, 3)
b) Reflected against the y=2 line

So, the coordinates of the angular points shadow of ABCD quadrangle are A’(-
2, 0), B’(0, -1),
C’(1, -4). and D’(1, 7)
