Final images used for my

magazine

By Evie Holmes
Front Cover
I have chosen to use this image for the main
and only image featured on the front cover of
Reverb magazine. The group of 3 females, who
will be portrayed as a collective band, link to
the female target audience I am aiming to
achieve with my magazine. The message I am
wishing to send out is that female artists can be
just as successful as males, this female
collective will encourage that idea and hopefully
act as role models to other women.
The indie style is evident, which links to and
further reveals the indie rock genre of the
magazine; band t-shirts, layers, trousers and
short/fringed hair styles.
The stern yet charming expressions, both
portrayed through facial expressions and body
language, infers that the trio are a force to be
reckoned with, but not in an egoistical way.
The high angle shot represents a subtle
message the band once looked/look up to
other successful female artists in hope to follow
in their footsteps; readers of the magazine can
do the same.
Contents Page
This image will be featuring (as the main
image) in the contents page as it links the
front cover story and the main article together.
The image was taken based off a similar shot;
to further enhance the recreation I will be
photo shopping a concert background behind
the model to make it appear as a image taken
from a Vivid Dream (the band) gig; creating a
realistic element for the reader to enjoy.

I will also be using this image within my

contents page as another female act is
shown, linking to the general representation
of the magazine. The low angle shot conveys
the power of the duo, along with the
somewhat moody expression of the left
model. This expression defies stereotypes of
women being fragile and emotional in a
negative way.
Contents Page
This image will be used within the contents page of my
magazine, as it shows although women are the main
focal point of the project, male artists are not entirely
excluded. I have recreated this image from a similar
shot of Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys frontman, as my
questionnaire feedback revealed that Arctic Monkeys are
the most popular band among my audience. The
similarities between the two images will hopefully be
apparent and thus increase the readers interest towards
my magazine.

This long shot image will feature within my contents page as part
of a preview to a story inside the magazine. In Photoshop, I will cut
the background behind the model and insert an image of the
Birmingham Institute music venue. The result will seem as if the
model is actually standing outside the venue, which links to the
content of the relative feature a tour around the Bham music
scene.
The model further develops the indie style trend portrayed
throughout the magazine, through items such as Doc Martens
Double Page Spread
I have chosen to use this image of my created
band for the main image of my double page
spread. The image shows and represents the
band as musicians through the inclusion of
their instruments, as opposed to the front
cover image, which shows the models alone.
The electric guitars are both Fender
Stratocasters, a model which is
predominantly used within indie rock music,
further expressing the genre of the magazine.
Here the band maintain their hard-to-crack
expressions and appearance shown on the
front cover, revealing that they mean serious
business about their work.
Supporting this is the low angle shot of the
image, which conveys power; the band are
looking down on the reader from a higher
perspective, subtly showing that it takes hard
work and determination to reach success in a
patriarchal industry.
