Evaluation question 7

By Alannah Flood
Looking back at your preliminary, what have you learnt in the
progression from that to the final production
Since filming the prelim I have personally learnt so much in terms
of all aspects of filming from mise en scene, camera angles,
editing and so forth.

My prelim task had to be re-filmed a number of times due to it
either being too short or the breaking of the 180 degree rule. I did
enjoy the exercise however due to the errors that were being
made during the production, re-filming was very repetitive.
The main challenges for me was getting the camera angles right
and making sure that the lighting wasnt too dark or bright and
also that they matched in the different areas I filmed in.
Another challenge was the location, before you plan to film it is
imperative that you have a suitable location that know one else
can claim while filming.
Camerawork
Filming for our main production was much easier and simple,
although we can across a few obstacles, we shortly over came
them as we learnt a lot from filming the prelim.
In comparison to our prelim, the variety of our shots increase
prominently, as we had much more content we also increased the
amount of camera movement in the product.
Shot that were used include; close ups, extreme close ups, high
angles shots and finally low angle shots. We decided to add these
shots as they aid character development and add more meaning
to a characters movement and facial expressions.
Camerawork
In terms of composition, there was a large improvement of our
shots in comparison to the preliminary task. The shots in the
prelim were very simplistic and basic, wide shots were used
however they were mostly out of focus and took away meaning.
We developed our sequence by adding a different range of shots
and movements. For example in our prelim we had no camera
movement at all, which restricted our piece in terms of
development of the sequence.
The camera movement was added in the bathroom scene, when
Kristela pulls Alannah off camera.
Editing
The editing in our final piece was more so professional in contrast
with the preliminary task. In the preliminary task there is no other
scenes to cut to in relation to the storyline, hence editing in the
preliminary being so straight forward
