AND ECONOMICS

Lecture no.2
PROJECT & PRODUCTION
Lecturer: Ahmed El Sayed
PROJECT?

 Group of people working

together to achieve a
mutual goal?

 A combination of work
force and machines to
produce a product?

 Any work that has

limitation and costs,
threaten by risks and
constriants, with a clearly
defined goals?
PROJET MANAGEMENT

 It is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and

techniques to project activities to meet project
requirements.

 This includes work processes that initiate, plan, execute,

control, and close work.

 During these processes, tradeoffs must be made among the:

 Scope (size)
 Quality (acceptability of the results)
 Cost, and
 Schedule.
PROJET MANAGEMENT – Modern age

 IPMA (1967) & ICB

 PMI (1969) & PMBOM

 Rapid growth was marked in recent years due to:

 The increased international competition,
 Customers demands related to the quality of products and the delivery of them,
 The demands related to the costs
Project Characteristics

 Project should:
 Be unique
 contain clearly Defined Goals
 Contain Phases
 Be preformed within limits
 Contain risks
 Have resources
 Bring changes

 Characteristics help in differing projects and other

processes.
Project vs Production

 Project’s Characteristics  Production’s

are: Characteristics are:
 specific goals  wide objectives
 single / unique  repeatable situation
 limited time  continuous process
 project organization  functional organization
 temporary teams  permanent teams
 rapid changes  slow changes
 uncertainty in the process  relatively safe process
