This document is a geography project by Megha Ghosh on biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. It defines biodegradable waste as organic matter such as food scraps and paper that can break down into elements like carbon dioxide and methane through processes like composting. Non-biodegradable waste like plastics, metals, and glass do not break down or take many years to break down. The document notes that non-biodegradable trash is a growing environmental concern as the amount of waste increases with population growth.

In waste management, it also includes some inorganic materials which can be decomposed by bacteria. Such materials include gypsum and its products such as plasterboard and other simple organic sulfates which can be decomposed to yield hydrogen sulfide in anaerobic land- fill conditions.[1] [2] • In domestic waste collection, the scope of biodegradable waste may be narrowed to include only those degradable wastes capable of being handled in the local waste handling facilities.[ NON BIODEGRADABLE WASTE • Trash falls into one of two categories: either biodegradable or non- biodegradable. While Biodegradable waste will eventually break down and become part of the earth and soil, like food scraps and paper. Non-biodegradable waste will NOTbreak down or at least NOT break down for many years. Examples of Non-biodegradable are plastics, metal and glass. Dangerous chemicals and toxins are also non- biodegradable, as are plastic grocery bags, plastic water bottles and other similar materials. • Non-biodegradable trash has been a growing concern to environmentalists, but now is becoming a concern to anyone wanting to embrace a more eco-friendly lifestyle; as world population grows so does our waste. It’s becomIng increasingly important to understand what non-biodegradable waste is, as well as the effects that it has in on our planet. Thank you
