The bone oseo
The bony system is
made up of bones, hard
structures formed by
calcium and a collagen
matrix. The bones are
organized to form the
skeleton that consists
of 208 bones.
∞ Parts of the skeletal
system

 Bones (skeleton)
 Joints
 Cartilages
 Ligaments (bone to bone)
(tendón=bone to muscle)

∞ Divided into two divisions

 Axial skeleton
 Appendicular skeleton – limbs
and girdle.
∞Includes:

 Skull
Cranium
Face

 Hyoid bone
 Auditory ossicles
 Vertebral column
 Thorax
Sternum
Ribs
∞The pectoral girdle
 Clavicles
 Scapulae

∞The upper limb

 Arm
 Forearm
 Hand
 The skeleton has 208 bones
 Two basic types of bone tissue

o Compact bone
Homogeneus

o Spongy bone

Small needle-like pieces

of bone
Many open spaces
There are three types of bone cells:

osteoblasts Bone-forming cells.

Mature bone cells that carry out the

osteocytes metabolic activities of bone tissue.

Cells that dissolve the bone, perform

degradation and bone absorption
osteoclasts functions. Are important for the growth,
maintenance and repair of the bones .
Also, inside the parts of a bone we can find:
• The diaphysis : which is the longest
main portion of the bone.
• The epiphysis : is the terminal portion
of the bone.
• The metaphysis :is the area where the
diaphysis and the epiphysis are
articulated.
• The periosteum : is essential for
growth and bone repair. Composed of
glasses blood vessels, lymph vessels and
nerves that pass into the bone.
• The medullary cavity : which is
located in the diaphysis, is composed of
fatcells and some cells blood
 Long
 Short
 Flat
 Irregular
