GEOLOGIC PROCESSES

AND HAZARDS
GEOLOGIC PROCESSES
• Geologic processes are dynamic processes
at work on the Earth’s landforms and
surfaces. The mechanisms involved,
weathering, erosion, and plate tectonics,
combine processes that are in some
respects destructive and in other
constructive.
Plate Tectonics
-Splitting and joining of landmasses.
GEOLOGIC HAZARDS
• A Geologic Hazard is one of several
types of adverse geologic conditions
capable of causing damage or loss of
property and life. These hazards
consists of sudden phenomena and
slow phenomena.
Sudden Phenomena:
• Avalanches
• Earthquakes
• Forest Fires
• Landslides
• Volcanic Eruptions
Gradual or Slow Phenomena:
• Alluvial Fans
• Geyser Deposits
• Sand Dune
• Thermal Springs
• Liquefaction
