4 Floor structure

30 m high and 300 m long

To connect the structure and the envelope, double bow trusses

are used to minimize the complexity of the connections.

The primary structural system can be identified as a series of

warren based, triangular three-dimensional trusses.
These trusses are arched in a way that mimics the shape of the
curvilinear roof located above.

Total - 18 trusses
(placed at a distance of Weathered panel
14.4 m apart.)
Span - 82.8 m (of long span trusses) Structural panel

- A secondary structure was designed to Panel bracket

provide stability to the trusses.
Arched trusses
-Made up of I-sections that are cross braced,
this helps absorb any lateral forces and
restricts any buckling from occurring.
Kansai Region is subject to severe earthquakes
and earthquakes can liquefy the sort of land-fill that
might be used to construct such an island.

There are many viaducts in the airport-island to ensure

smooth traffic conditions. Even if a Great Hanshin-like
earthquake occurred, we have secured passenger safety
and will be able to keep the airport operating. Kansai
Airports has improved its viaducts. with
Anti-earthquake reinforcement

Building this airport in the middle of the

bay makes it particularly prone to
earthquakes, tsunamis, and
typhoons.
Since the island is very close to sea level,
large waves are it's biggest threat. To
deal with this, a seawall was built to
withstand a 50 year surge. Then later,
this was added to even more so that the
total seawall height reaches 12 m tall. 1. Concrete filling reinforcement for steel bridge piers
