Purpose

How all components are pieced together, array of

different materials being used, and more efficient way
to put materials together to enhance effectiveness of the
object’s purpose.

Hypothesis

As the fuel evaporates in the rayon balls, with the

flick of the flint wheel, the wheel will create spark
that goes through the eyelet and onto the wick to
create flame.
Flowchart

Thumb---Force-->Flint Wheel--
Spin/friction--> flint piece---Sparks--
>Wick (lighter fluid infused)--catches
fire--->Flame produced
Functional Analysis
● Rayon Balls-Soaked in lighter fluid for flame to
● Wick-Pulled through eyelet
develop
● Eyelet-Screws through cam spring, fastens
● Felt Pad-Pre-Cut hole for flint/lighter fluid stamped
down/provides opening for wick
● Cam-Keeps lid closed/open securely on bottom of inner case
● Flint Wheel-Rubs against flint to make ● Flint-Contact with base of flint
spark/light the fuel ● Spring Tip-Made of brass
● Cam Rivet-Acts like spring ● Flint Spring-Pushed through brass tube
● Inside Case-Installed in outer case ● Screw-Lid fully closed/secure. Help delay lighter
assembly
● fluid evaporation
Tube Insert-Connects to tube
● Plate-Allows cam to go down/up ● Brass Lid-Extinguish flame
● Tube-Connects to spring ● Hinges-Holds open case
● Brass Bottom Case-Resist any damaged parts
Structural Analysis
● Insert lighter fluid on rayon balls, close by securing with felt
pad/screw.
● Spring holds/pushes flint through tube to hold it.
● Inside case holds rayon balls/spring = gets inserted through tube.
● Cam/cam rivet holds open case.
● Flint wheel causes spark of flame when flick/rub it.
● Eyelet provides opening for wick, catch spark and create flame.
