Births in surveyed area:
( From September 1st 2018 – August 31st 2019 )

• Total number of people surveyed = 750

• Total number of births in the given interval of time = 6

a) No. Of female children = 4

b) No. Of male children = 2
Birth rate

Crude birth rate:

• Birth rate is defined as the number of live births per 1000 estimated mid year
population in a given year .
• It is the simplest indicator of fertility.
• Crude birth rate = No. of live births during the year × 1000
Estimated mid year population
= _ 6_ X 1000
750
= 8 births per 1000 mid year population

Sex ratio at birth

• Sex ratio at birth: Sex ratio is defined as the number of females per 1000
males.

• Sex ratio at birth = No. Of female children × 1000

No. Of male children

= 4 X 1000
2

= 2000 females per 1000 males

Deaths in the surveyed area
( From September 1st 2018 to August 31st 2019)

• Total number of people surveyed = 750

• Total number of deaths in the given interval of time = 8
Death rate

Crude death rate :

• It is defined as the no. of deaths per 1000 estimated mid year population
in 1 year, in a given time . It is the simplest measure of mortality.

• Crude death rate = No. of deaths during the year × 1000

Mid year population
= 8_ X 1000
750

= 10.66 deaths per 1000 mid year population

Growth rate

Growth:
• When the crude death rate is subtracted from the crude birth rate, the
net residual is the current annual growth rate, exclusive of migration.

• Annual growth rate = crude birth rate – crude death rate

= 8 – 10.66
= -2.66 per 1000 mid year population
