TITLE:INTERNET OF THINGS(IOT)
INTRODUCTION OF IOT
 IoT (Internet of Things) is the network of physical devices,
vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with
electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which
enables these things to connect and exchange the data.
 The IoT is a giant network of connected things and people – all of
which collect and share data about the way they are used and
about the environment around them.
 IoT is an ecosystem of connected physical objects that are
accessible through the internet.
VISION OF IOT
 The vision of IoT is to encompasses the idea of connecting all
devices and gadgets to the internet.
 Embedded with technology, these devices can communicate and
interact over the Internet, and they can be remotely monitored and
controlled.
 IoT devices will bridge the gap between physical and digital world
to improve the quality and productivity of life, society and
industries.
HISTORY OF IOT
 The concept of a network of smart devices was discussed as early
as 1982, with a modified Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon
University becoming the first Internet-connected appliance, able
to report its inventory and whether newly loaded drinks were cold.
 The term "Internet of things" was likely coined by Kevin Ashton
of Proctor and Gamble later MIT’s Auto-ID Center in 1999,
though he prefers the phrase "Internet for things".
CHARACTERISTICS OF IOT
 The fundamental characteristics of the IoT are as
follows:
 Interconnectivity
 Heterogeneity
 Dynamic changes
 Enormous scale
 Safety
 Connectivity
ARCHITECTURE OF IOT

ADVANTAGES OF IOT
 Data: The more the information, the easier it is to make the right
decision.
 Tracking: The computers keep a track both on the quality and the
viability of things at home.
 Time: The amount of time saved in monitoring and the number of
trips done otherwise would be tremendous.
 Money: The financial aspect is the best advantage. This
technology could replace humans who are in charge of monitoring
and maintaining supplies.
DISADVANTAGES OF IOT
  Compatibility: As of now, there is no standard for tagging and
monitoring with sensors.
 Complexity: There are several opportunities for failure with
complex systems.
 Privacy/Security: Privacy is a big issue with IoT. All the data
must be encrypted so that data.
 Safety: There is a chance that the software can be hacked and
your personal information misused.
IMPACTS OF IOT
 The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) is all about connecting
machines and systems together via sensors and actuators, so that
meaningful information from these systems can be collected and
actions taken to enhance human productivity and efficiency.
 While many of us have harboured science-fictional and futuristic
dreams of using smart homes and offices and the freedom of
living and working from anywhere irrespective of location
technology to enable that did not exist. Today the availability of
IoT is helping to make these dreams turn into a reality.
APPLICATIONS OF IOT
Consumer applications
Infrastructure applications
ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES OF IOT
 Enabling technologies for the Internet of Things are
considered in and can be grouped into three categories:
1. technologies that enable “things” to acquire contextual
information,
2. technologies that enable “things” to process contextual
information, and
3. technologies to improve security and privacy.
PLATFORMS OF IOT
SOME IMPORTANT YEARS RELATED TO IOT

 1969: Arpanet
 1974:Beginnings of TCP/IP
 1984:Domain Name System is introduced
 1991: The first web page was created by Tim Berners-Lee
 1995: The Internet goes commercial with Amazon
 1998: Google is incorporated
 1999:  A big year for the IoT and MIT
The Internet of Things term is coined by Kevin Ashton executive
director of the Auto-ID Center.
CHALLENGES OF IOT
 Some of the challenges which we have to face
are:
 Security & Privacy concerns
 Stability
 Compatibility
 Standards
 Intelligent Data Analysis
CONCLUSION
 Internet of things, a rather new technology, provides many
applications to connect the things to things, machine to
machine, and human to things through the Internet.
 Internet of Things is a new revolution of the Internet & it is a
key research topic for researcher in embedded, computer
science & information technology area due to its very diverse
area of application & heterogeneous mixture of various
communications and embedded technology in its
architecture.
