On the occasion of World Elder's Day on 1st October,

"Gift Drishti" (Restoring vision) was launched. SBI


Life employees made monetary contributions to the
cause. SBI Life donated twice the sum contributed by
its employees. Eye sight for thousands of elderly
citizens was restored across the rural parts.

SBI Life undertook the Corporate Social


Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed at driving the
cause to make children read and write. The campaign,
"Read India Pledge" sensitized general public
towards the cause and urged them to pledge &
support the cause monetarily or by devoting time.

The campaign was partnered by Pratham, one of the


leading child-cause related NGOs and Radio Mirchi,
a leading radio station.
Bharti Airtel’s response to Tsunami Disaster:
Built a mobile network in Andaman & Nicobar islands in less than 3 months.
Donated Rs. 1 Crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund
Created 29 Airtel Crisis Communications centres in Tamil Nadu

Bharti Airtel’s response to Kashmir earthquake:


Bharti Airtel’s ‘Rapid Response Team’ responded to the Kashmir earthquake by
bringing more than 2000 food packets and water bottles to the affected area.
Money, clothes, woolens and blankets were also collected from employees to
distribute among earthquake victims.

Asha Daan
Established in Mumbai, is a home for abandoned, handicapped children and people affected
by AIDS. Asha Daan had been set up on a 72,500 square feet plot, in the heart of the city
leased by the company. HLL also bears the capital and revenue expenses for maintenance,
upkeep and security of the premises

Ankur
Established in Assam, a centre for special education of handicapped children aged
between 5 and 15 years, opened in 1993. It received the Lawrie Group Worldaware
Award for Social Progress in 1999.

Kappagam
'Kappagam' (means 'shelter'), a second centre for special education of mentally and
physically challenged children was set up in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu in
1998
Project Shakti
The objectives of Project Shakti are to create income-generating capabilities for
underprivileged rural women by providing a sustainable micro enterprise opportunity,
and to improve rural living standards through health and hygiene awareness. It has
already been extended to over 5000 villages in 52 districts in Andhra Pradesh,
Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Vindya Valley
In 2002, the company also took up this project in Madhya Pradesh It has helped the
government create 'Vindhya Valley', an umbrella brand for food products, and support
software for its marketing, manufacturing and distribution, generating higher sales
and higher returns for rural artisan communities, many of whom are women.

Yashodadham Village
Reconstructed this village in Gujarat's Kachch district, which was completely
wrecked by the devastating earthquake of January 2001 .

Integrated rural development


This Programme was started in 1976 in the backward district of Uttar Pradesh with 30
villages. As of now, it has been extended to about 500 villages. The basic activity is
farmers training, health of villagers, infrastructure development, improvement in
productivity and health of cattle in Etah.
