Introduction

 GR aluminum is a branch of GR metals, which

was formed in 1985
 Initial two industries in Gujranwala
 Third industry opened in Lahore, in 2007
 Under the supervision of Hamid Kamboh
 Holds great reputation in aluminum market
 Categorized in metal industry
Industry Analysis (Porters 5 forces)

 Competitive rivalry
 Low numbers of large manufacturers
 Market filled with some medium, but mostly small
manufacturers
 Primary competitors include
 Prime Chawala Aluminum, and Alumex
 Competitive edge being, economic cost leadership
in product pricing
 Supplier Power
 Raw material is imported from Europe, Canada, and Australia
 The exportation of cable wires as scrap
 Company has strong hold on terms and conditions during
negotiating

 Buyer Power
 GR aluminum has more than 70 dealers plus multiple sub
dealers, all around Pakistan
 Major cities with more demand, have more dealers
 The distribution channel is very wide, which weakens the
buyer power
 With cost leadership in market, negotiations are mostly
expected to end positively
 Threat of substitutes
 Primary competitors are equally strong in the market
 Threat is controlled with the expansion of distribution
channels, to ensure the products availability
 Cost leadership also plays a role in controlling brand
switching

 Threat of New entries

 Expensive to start operations, costly machinery
 Entry barrier set very high for new entries
 Technologically advanced and efficient production by
new entry can cause threat
 GR aluminum produces both manufactured and
finished products

 Covers local market, as well as firms using aluminum

as commodity in their final product

 Product line includes :.

 Angle Strips
 Channel Rods
 Brass rods
 Pipes
 Aluminum Doors
 Window Frames

• Imported raw material

• Magnesium
• Silicone (silica)
• Copper
• Caustic
• Aging oven 5 hours approximately
• Anodizing for corrosion
• Coating for powder
Technology
 All equipment and machinery Chinese
 Reduced cost
 Capital efficiency
 Easy import of parts
 More durable then German
 Chinese machinery more suitable for Chinese
machinery
Quality Check

 No ISO certification
 NESPAK, PWD, MES certified
 Quality cannot compete in international
market
 Approved tests of:
 Measurement of the powder coating thickness
 Spectroscopic Analysis of Aluminum Alloy
 Measurement of Coating thickness in Microns &
hardness of Al-Alloy
Quality Check
 Approved tests by Pakistan Council of
Scientific and Industries Research include:
 Hardness test of a sample
 Anodizing thickness of the sample
 Coating thickness of the sample

 After every step of the process, the quality is

checked and faulty pieces are removed

 No set standard of quality

Inventory System
 7 tonnes of aluminum in a 6-8 hour shift

 Operates 24 hours in 3 shifts producing up to 21

tonnes of aluminum in a day

 Economic instability reduced it to 1 shift a day

 Inventory system is both manual and digitalized

 No forecasting technique being used
