SYNOPSIS
(This course covers professional concept in social
work and human services. Social work roles and
practices as a response to social issues and the
importance of knowledge, skills and values in
social work profession are also discussed).

Kursus ini merangkum konsep profesional dalam


kerja sosial dan perkhidmatan manusia. Peranan
dan praktis kerja sosial sebagai respons kepada isu
sosial dan kepentingan pengetahuan, kemahiran
dan nilai dalam profesion kerja sosial turut
dibincangkan.

LAB 1 (individual) - Articles from international journals

1.Students need to obtain one journals article ( for each individual)


from international journals, journal titles should be registered with
lecturer, the title chosen by more than one student is not allowed
2.The objective of this exercise is to expose students to real world of
social work as internationally practiced
3.Students need to read and understand the journal and then
explain in the form of a report (at least 5 pages with double
spacing)
4.The referring article have to be attached with the report
5.Every student have to present what they understand about content
of the article in the class, presentation slot will be schedule during
lab hours.

LAB 2 (group) Concept of Social Functioning

1.Students need to identify one social issue from the


media (newspaper or internet) in Malaysia (eg. School
trickery, gangsterisem, drug abuse poverty and child
abuse)
2.Students need to discuss the issues selected from the
perspective of social functioning. Copy of the issue
(from newspaper or online) should be included in the
report
3.The discussion should consists of issues, causes,
effects and views on how to solve the problem.
4.Based on the issues selected, you are required to
discuss the issue using “inner and outer forces model”
(refer to lab module).
5.The report should be submitt and presentation will be
schedule during lab slot

LAB 3 (Individual) Social case work – case management

1.The objective of this exercise is to introduce students to


a cases handled by social workers in their daily practice.
2.Method
• Get a written case from social work book or related
field. Cases from internet will be consider. All cases
must get approval from the lecturer before the cases
can be register.
• Read and understand the case
• Explain briefly about the case and 'high light' role
(such as role as enabler, mediator, counselor, teacher)
played by social workers in the case - refer to lecture
notes
• During the lab slot, students will be called randomly to
present their respective case
• Attention: a printed copy of cases must attach
together in the report

LAB 4 (Group) Visit to social work agency


1) The objective of this exercise is to to expose students to
social work practice and human services in a local context.
2) Method:
 Take a trip to a social agency within your area (government
agency or non-governmental agencies - NGO's)
 Get information on backgrounds, establishment, history,
objectives, organizational structures, and programs or
activities carried out - prepare a full report on the visit,
(students should include photos taken during the visit)
 As a summary, write your 'opinion' on the field of social work
related to the agency concerned.
 Findings from visits to this agency need to be presented in the
presentation slot which is to be schedule tentatively on week
12 and week 13)
* Attention: the presentation should be made in the
practical slot and students are advised to present in the
form of a powerpoint

Amali: 28 hingga 42 jam (14 minggu. 2 hingga 3 jam seminggu)

Amali 1 - Individu (Artikel dari journal antarabangsa)  


  1) Pelajar perlu mendapatkan satu journal artikel dari journal kerja sosial antarabangsa, tajuk journal perlu  
didaftarkan pada pensyarah, tajuk mestilah berbeza bagi setiap pelajar
2) Objektif amali ini adalah untuk mendedahkan para pelajar kepada bidang kerja sosial yang sebenar
sebagaimana dipraktiskan di peringkat antarabangsa
3) Pelajar perlu membaca dan memahami journal atikel tersebut dan kemudiannya menerangkan semula dalam
bentuk laporan (sekurang-kurangnya 5 muka surat bertaip ‘ double spacing’)
4) Artikel yang menjadi rujukan perlu dilampirkan dalam laporan
5) Setiap pelajar perlu membentangkan analisa journal dalam slot pembentangan yang akan dijadualkan
dalam waktu makmal (bahan pembentangan perlu disediakan dalam bentuk powerpoint)

Amali 2 - Kumpulan (Konsep Kefungsian Sosial)  


  1) Terbahagi kepada 2a dan 2b  
2) Pelajar perlu mengenalpasti satu isu sosial dari media cetak dan online di Malaysia (cth. Isu ponteng
sekolah di kalangan pelajar, isu gangsterisem, isu dadah, isu penagihan arak dan sebagainya)
3) Amali 2a: Pelajar perlu membincangkan isu yang dipilih dari perspektif kefungsian sosial. Keratan isu
tersebut (dari akhbar atau majalah) perlu disertakan di dalam laporan
4) Perbincangan terdiri dari isu, punca, kesan dan pandangan pelajar mengenai bagaimana untuk
menyelesaikan masalah.
5) Amali 2b: Berdasarkan isu yang telah dipilih dalam amali 2a, anda dikehendaki untuk membincangkan
semula isu tersebut dengan menggunakan model tambahan tekanan luaran dan dalaman. (rujuk nota kuliah)
Amali 3 - Individu (Casework – contoh praktis kerja sosial (individu, kumpulan atau komuniti)
  1) Objektif amali ini ialah untuk memperkenalkan kepada pelajar contoh kes yang ditangani oleh pekerja sosial
dalam praktis harian mereka.
  1) Kaedah:
 Dapatkan satu kes yang bertulis dari buku-buku kerja sosial atau yang berkaitan (pelajar juga boleh
dapatkan dari internet jika ada),
 Baca dan fahamkan kes tersebut
 Ceritakan semula secara ringkas dan ‘high light’ kan peranan (seperti peranan sebagai anabler,
mediator, kaunselor, teacher) yang dimainkan oleh pekerja sosial dalam kes tersebut – rujuk nota
kuliah
 Semasa slot amali, pelajar akan dipanggil secara rawak untuk membentangkan kes masing-masing
(perhatian: semasa menghantar laporan amali ini pelajar perlu sertakan satu salinan kes yang telah dipilih)
Amali 4 – Kumpulan (Lawatan ke agensi kerja sosial)
  1) Objektif amali ini ialah untuk memberi pendedahan terhadap perkhidmatan dalam kerja sosial dalam
kontaks tempatan.
2) Kaedah:
 Membuat lawatan ke sebuah agensi sosial yang berhampiran tempat tinggal anda (boleh terdiri dari
agensi kerajaan ataupun agensi bukan kerajaan – NGO’s)
 Dapatkan maklumat mengenai latar-belakang, sejarah penubuhan, objektif penubuhan, struktur
organisasi, dan program atau aktiviti yang dijalankan – sediakan laporan lengkap mengenai lawatan
tersebut, (pelajar perlu sertakan gambar yang diambil semasa lawatan dibuat)
 Sebagai rumusan, tulis ‘pandangan anda’ mengenai bidang perkhidmatan kerja sosial yang berkaitan
dengan agensi berkenaan.
 Dapatan dari lawatan ke agensi ini perlu di bentangkan dalam slot pembentangan yang akan
ditentukan (minggu 12 dan minggu 13)
(perhatian: pembentangan perlu dibuat dalam slot yang akan ditetapkan oleh demonstrator dan seeloknya
dengan menggunakan perisian microsoft powerpoint)

   Perjumpaan pertama dan pembentukan kumpulan
WEEK 1  Bilangan seimbang untuk kesmua kumpulan perlu diberi perhatian oleh demonstrator
 Pelajar perlu membentuk kumpulan kecil terdiri dari 4 hingga 5 orang pelajar dan perlu
didaftarkan kepada demonstrator
 Penerangan secara ringkas keseluruhan amali
   First meeting and group formation
 Balanced numbers for all groups should be addressed by the demonstrators
 Students should form small groups consist 4 to 5 students and need to be registered to
demonstrator
 Briefly describe the whole exercise in practical lab.

   Pendaftaran journal yang telah dipilih, setiap individu perlu memilih 1 journal dan
WEEK 3 pensyarah berhak menolak pendaftaran journal yang sama tajuk
 menulis laporan seperti dalam panduan amali
   Journal that have been selected should be register, each individu needs to select 1
journals and lecture has the right to reject journal with the same title
 Write a report as describe in the practical guide
