NETWORK TOPOLOGY
• way in which nodes (computer router or any devices)
are connected
• local area network (LAN) or other network
• cables (wired) or without cables (wireless)

• arrangement of a network which comprises of nodes

and connecting lines via sender and receiver is
referred as network topology.
NETWORK TOPOLOGY

• refers to the
layout of
connected
devices.
NETWORK TOPOLOGY
•Bus
•Ring
•Star
•Tree
•Mesh
•Hybrid
BUS TOPOLOGY
• each nodes (may be computer or any network
device) is connected with single cable.
BUS TOPOLOGY
RING TOPOLOGY
• every device has
exactly two
neighbors for
communication
purposes.

• All messages travel

through a ring in the
same direction
RING TOPOLOGY

A ring topology comprises of 4 stations connected with each forming a ring.

RING TOPOLOGY
RING TOPOLOGY
STAR TOPOLOGY
• features a central
connection point
called a "hub node"
that may be a
network hub, switch
or router.

• Used by many home

networks
STAR TOPOLOGY
STAR TOPOLOGY
TREE TOPOLOGY
• joins multiple star
topologies together
onto a bus.

• also called
hierarchical topology
TREE TOPOLOGY

TREE TOPOLOGY
MESH TOPOLOGY
• topology introduces
the concept of routes.

• point-to-point
connection to other
nodes or devices
• every device is
connected to another
device via particular
channel.

HYBRID TOPOLOGY
• mix of two or more topology to form a single
network.
• collection of two or more topologies.
