ORGANIC AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION


NC II
 The ORGANIC AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION NC II Qualification consists of
competencies that a person must achieve to produce organic farm products
such as chicken and vegetables including producing of organic supplements
such as fertilizer, concoctions and extracts. It has two (2) elective
competencies which are on raising organic hogs and raising organic small
ruminants.
The units of competency comprising this
qualification include the following:

 pagpapraktis sa pagsasaka sa
 organikong paraan.
Upon completion of this unit of
competency the students/trainees
will be able to:

 Identify and prepare nursery tools,


farm implements and simple
equipment;
 Maintain nursery facilities;
 Handle seeds/planting material
 Prepare growing media
 Conduct propagation activities
Learning Objective
After the discussion, the student/trainees should be
able to prepare growing media, select seeds,
prepare seedbed, care and maintenance of seedling
while in nursery area.

Seed Selections
 Seeds and planting materials shall be of high
quality and certified organic, when available.
 non-organic seed and planting materials may be
used provided that they have not been treated
with pesticides and other inputs not permitted by
this Standard
 The seeds that are used to cultivate new crops
have to be selected very carefully and of high
quality.
 There are several diseases that are transmitted
via the seeds. If seeds from an infested field are
used to grow the next crop, these seed-born
diseases will immediately cause serious
problems. Seed selection should thus start by
obtaining seeds from healthy plants.
Seed Selection
 Seeds and planting materials derived
from tissue culture may be used for the
production of organic, disease-free
planting materials.
 The use of chemical treated seeds is
when natural disaster like floods,
drought, earthquake, pest outbreaks, or
other unanticipated circumstances have
occurred, causing the destruction of
organic seed supply, only then can
treated seeds be used.
 The use of genetically modified seeds or
planting materials is not allowed
