Conditionals type 2 and 3 are just about…
With the Conditional type 2 you imagine a
situation that is unlikely in the present or in the
future.

With the Conditional type 3 you imagine a
situation that is different in the past and with a
different result in the present.

If Past perfect Perfect conditional


Would + have + past participle
The 3rd Conditional is used especially in two
situations:

 Regrets: when we wish something from the past was


different, maybe we feel bad about a decision we made.

 Relief:when something in the past had a good result but


you thought it was going to be bad.
So, again, what is the structure of the 3rd conditional?

Would + have + past participle

If I had saved money, I would have


bought a PS5.
If I hadn’t eaten so much during
quarantine, I would have been slim
today.
Remember we can also use the conditional type 3 for
relief:

been locked outside.

have waited 1 hour for the bus.
