by Process Engineer with inputs from
other disciplines/ Project department
 Equipment list gives the brief information
of each and every equipment of the Plant/
Project in tabular form
 Equipment list is prepared in conjunction
with the PFDs/ PIDs/ PDS

 Design Temperature/ Pressure

 Equipment list sometimes gives the
following additional information:
 Equipment Weight
 PID no. / PDS no. to which Equipment

 Whether connected to Emergency

 Line list is a document, prepared by
Process Engineer with inputs from Piping
Engineer
 Line list gives the details of each and
every line in the Project/ appearing on the
PIDs, in tabular form
 Line list is prepared in conjunction with
the PFDs/ PIDs
 Line list forms part of the starting point
documents for Piping group to go for
detailing

PIPING SERVICE INDEX
 Piping Service Index is a document prepared by
Process Engineer, in conjunction with Piping
Engineer
 Piping Service Index gives information about
Material of Construction and rating of Piping
material for various services in plant
 It is prepared and presented in tabular form, and
contains following information typically:
 Piping class
 Fluid being handled
 Design temperature
 Design pressure
 Material of construction
 Corrosion allowance

 Key to Piping Service Index:
 Typical Pipe Class: A1A, A2A, B1A, A1K, A1M, A2F, A2G, A3H

 First Letter : Indicates Pressure Rating (for eg. A = 150#, B =

300#, D = 600# etc.)

 Third Letter : Indicates Type of material (for eg. A = Carbon

Steel, B = Alloy Steel, F = Galvanized Carbon Steel, G = FRP &
PVC/ FRP etc.)

 Middle Number : Indicates Difference in specs

 for eg. for A, 1 = CA 1.5 mm seamless, 2 = CA 1.5 mm IBR, 6 =
CA 3.0 mm etc.
 for eg. for B, 1 = CA 1.5 mm, 2 = CA 3.0 mm etc.
 for eg. for F, 1 = CA nil (Drinking water), 2 = CA nil (Instrument
Air) etc.

INSTRUMENT LIST
 Instrument list (Preliminary/ Process) is a
document, prepared by Process Engineer
 The Instrumentation department prepares/
upgrades a detailed Instrument list, which is part
of Detailing activity at later stage.
 Instrument list gives the brief information of
major instruments of the Plant/ Project in tabular
form, appearing on PIDs
 Instrument list is prepared based on the
information in the PFDs and PIDs
 Some companies prepare different lists of
instruments for different families of instruments

 Instruments listed by Process Engineer’s
Instrument list generally covers following:
 Flow instruments
 Temperature instruments
 Pressure instruments
 Level instruments
 Control valves
 Shutoff valves
 Analysers

 Instrument list prepared by Process
Engineer, typically gives the following
information for the major instruments:
 Instrument tag number
 Type
 Function – Monitor/ Control/ Interlock
 Location – Field/ Local panel/ Central Control panel
 Setpoint - for switches/ alarms
 Material handled – with some important physical
properties like density, viscosity, vapor pressure etc.
 End connections/ sizes
