WHAT IS SPECIAL PLEADING?
• Is often a result of strong emotional beliefs that interfere
with reason.
• It also involves a person applying rules and standards to
others while exempting him or himself.
• It is a logical fallacy asking for exemption.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIAL PLEADING
• Students who break the rules should be suspended from school. I
broke a rule, but I shouldn’t be suspended because I would be in a
lot of trouble with my parents.

• Yes, I do think that all drunk drivers should go to prison, but your
honor, he is my son! He is a good boy who just made a mistake!
