IMPACT OF COVID19 ON

WORK LIFE BALANCE PRESENTED BY – NEHA DUBEY


INTRODUCTION

 For most of the people around the world today, the recent COVID-19 outbreak is a symbol of how fragile and
unpredictable our lives can be in an unusual state of affairs. The virus which has changed the way in which most
of us live, work or perform our basic day to day functions is continuing to increase its grasp at an alarming rate
with the impact being felt at multiple levels resulting in economic slowdown, business disruption, trade
hindrances, travel obstructions, public seclusion and so on.
 In India, various states have been exposed to a situation of complete lockdown which has led employers to ponder
upon how they can keep their people safe, contain the spread of the virus and continue their operations effectively
during this unprecedented crisis.
JUSTIFICATION:

 Maintaining a healthy work–life balance has becoming increasingly challenging, with 3 in 10 finding it hard to
fulfil commitments outside of work due to time spent on their job.
 Employers need to support employees to work flexibly, to balance work and other commitments. They need to
recognise that remote working doesn’t equal flexibility.
 30% said their ability to work has been impacted by a change in caring responsibilities since the outbreak.
 32% find it difficult to fulfil commitments outside of work due to time spent on their job, compared to 24% in January 2020.
 This is particularly true for those whose caring responsibilities have increased during the pandemic: 39% of this group
reported difficulty fulfilling commitments outside of work because of time spent on their job, compared to 28% of those
without increased caring responsibility.
 14% of those with increased caring responsibilities said they found it difficult to do their job properly because of
commitments outside of work, compared to 7% without increased caring responsibilities.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES & METHODOLOGY:

 The study is designed with the following objectives:


 1) To know the impact of COVID 19 on the work life balance of the employees.
 2) To assess the willingness of respondents to work from home.
 3) To know the opinion of respondents towards work from home.

 Methodology:
 The study is purely based on the responses of 50 respondents working from home belonging to different sectors during
COVID 19. Data is collected during June 2020, the time frame when all the employees are compelled to work from home.
Majority of the respondents of this study are from teaching sector. All the respondents of this study are working from home
since one month continuously.
 Secondary Data has been also collected from various journals, websites and newspaper reports.
 The data collected from various sources have been suitably classified and tabulated to suit the purpose of study. Charts are
also used to illustrate and compare the collected data.
DATA ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS:

 94% of the respondents have been working from home due to the pandemic whereas 6% of people still have to
work from their offices.
 44% of respondents have to deal with 50% of increment in their domestic work, and 44% of respondents have to
deal with 25% of increment in their domestic work whereas 12% of respondents have to deal with 0% of the
increment in their domestic work.
 54% of the respondents are concerned to a great extent while 40% are concerned to an extreme extent whereas 6%
of respondents are concerned to a medium level of extent.
 34% of the respondents have experienced a 50% reduction in their income, and 44% of respondents have
experienced a 25% reduction in their income, and 20% of the respondents have experienced 0% reduction in their
income, whereas 2% of the respondents have experienced a reduction of 75% in their income.
 90% of the respondents have increased digital knowhow during the pandemic whereas 10% of the respondents
could not increase their digital knowhow.
CONCLUSION:

 The present study addressed a need in the current literature to understand the experience of employees working
from home for the first time and to know their willingness to work from home and how the home environment
affects their work.
 Given the results of the current study, respondents working from home will be willing to work if they are having
good and supportive environment to work from home.
