Minor irrigation project

• Introduction
• 1)Bandhara
• 2)Percolation tanks
• 3)lift irrigation
Bandhara irrigation
• The bandhara is local name and in bandhara
irrigation a small barrier or wall of small
height is constructed
• The main object of bandhara is to raise water
level on upstream side
Disadvanteges
Components parts and Layout
• Bandhara and Scour hole.
• The screen wall and outlet.
• The flood bank.
• Cannel and the lining wall
Percolation tanks
• In percolation tank the scheme water
percolate through soil pores and joints the
ground water.
• Thus increase in water level in well on
downstream side and this water is used by
farmers for irrigation.
Components and construction
Advantages
• Low cost .
• Easy construction.
• Resource utilization .
Disadvanteges
• Low efficiency.
• Costly investigation.
• Uncertain command area.
Site selection for percolation tank:
• The bed slope should be pervious .
• There should be number of well in command
• area.
• The side of stream should be steep.
• For construction the material and labours
should available near by site.
Lift irrigation
• When the source of water is lower than the
area to be irrigated then water is to be lifted
by artificial means and proccess of lifting
water from to higher level is called as lift
irrigation.
Advantages'
• Efficiency .
• Isolated development.
• Prevent water logging.
• Local control.
• Utilization of resource.
• Investment
Disadvanteges

• Presence of harmful salt.

• Uneconomical.
• Low dependability.
• Less discharge.
Components parts of lift irrigation
• Intake channel
• Inlet chamber
• Jack well
• Inlet pipe joining inlet chamber
• Engine house
• Rising main
• Delivery chamber
• Water distribution system
• Pumping machinery
