-Covid-19 has called for the re-invention of

many global industries. With the educational

sector being one of the most impacted, schools
must adapt to ‘The New Normal’ in order to
ensure the safety of both the teachers and
learners.

-Keep in mind that the more people a Learner

or School Personnel interacts with (and the
longer that interaction) the higher the risk of
transmission.
DISASTER RISK
REDUCTION AND
MANAGEMENT IN
THE NEW NORMAL
Screening and Testing:
1. Educators and all personnel will receive temperature
checks before entering the premises. According to the
Disaster Management Act, should an individual display
symptoms, the following points apply:

• That person is not allowed to enter the premises. If the

person is already on the premises of a school or office,
they must be isolated immediately and be required to
make arrangements to be safely transported off the
premises - either to be self-isolated or for a medical
examination or testing; in the case of a learner, the
parent or guardian must be contacted,
• Thereafter, the risk of transmission must be assessed, and the
area - such as the official, educator or learner's workstation -
must be disinfected, and

• Those who may be at risk must be referred for screening and

any other appropriate measure to prevent possible
transmission must be taken.

2. Each school SHOULD have a COVID-19 School Contingency

Plan.
Fire Safety During COVID-19
1. Limit gatherings in common areas inside your building to not more
than 10 persons. Keep 2 m or 6 feet apart from each other.

2. Daily, check the status of the fire alarm system to ensure it is in

working order.

3. Daily, check all egress and exit doors are clear of obstructions on
both sides, and could readily be opened.

4. Have the alarm bells checked regularly.

5. In the Canteen or TLE Rooms:

a. Keep close fitting lids nearby in cases of fire. NEVER use
water on a grease fire.
b. Keep flammable materials like towels away from the stove
c. Turn pot handles inward so they cannot be bumped
d. Never leave cooking unattended
6. Do not overload electrical outlets.

7. Have all the EMERGENCY NUMBERS posted in each classroom.

8. Candles should be used inside non-combustible containers on a

sturdy surface. Make sure no objects can touch or fall on the candle.

9. Plan and practice your escape. Know the two ways out to get off your
floor.

10. STRICTLY NO SMOKING within and 50 Meters Away from the School Vicinity.
