General Code of Conduct

 Leadership to ensure results & hardwork by subordinates

 Self Respect, postings, favours, courses


 In authority, kind considerate
 No fear to take difficult decisions, in good faith

 Polite & Courteous to public representatives

 Salary Package, don’t complain against it, limited wants &
desires

 Excellence requires competence, upgrading of skills and


knowledge

otherwise in-competent would wield it with disastrous

Conduct in the Academy

Requirements

i) Motivation
i) Good job for the sake of “a job well done.”

ii) Do not quit

iii) Strive to develop skills of leadership

a) Respect to Faculty, visiting or permanent

b) Wish a faculty member

c) The probationary officers get respect from colleagues


and faculty because of their discipline & performance
in the Academy

d) Behaviour in the hostel with your room mate &


hostelites is important, conduct yourself with grace

e) Wear name tags

iii) Dress Code Regulation

• Dress Code Regulations in the Class Room, Mess, Lounge,


Dinning Room, Library,

a) Dark coloured suits with shoes, males

b) Shalwar Kameez/Saree with shoes, females

c) Casual or frivolous attire not allowed

d) Dark coloured jacket and necktie for less formal


occasions.

iv) Class Room Etiquettes
a) Punctual, use back door if late

b) Clear and precise questions, raise hand, stand up,


introduce yourself and then ask questions without
interrupting the speaker, at the end.

c) Questions, politely, not to show off or score a point

d) Don’t enter into altercation

e) Visiting faculty has to be respected.

f) Give chance to others to ask questions.

g) Right posture of sitting in the class room, no slouching in
the chair, don’t cross arms behind your head

 No thumping of tables in applauding

 Please remain standing after lecture till speaker has left


the class

 For extension lectures be seated five minutes before &


don’t sit in the back rows when chairs are empty in the
front rows.

v) Service Matters
a) TA bills, never fudge time & date, never claim hotel bills
when you did not stay
b) Leave-not a right avail it only if it is sanctioned
c) Avoid getting leave extended. Never send a telegram or
telephonic message for extension of leave. It is un-officer
like.
d) Six leaves are available in CTP in addition to term break
of 6 days

vi) Financial Matters

a) Personal

i) Cheque must not be dishonoured.

ii) Blank cheque not to be signed.

iii) Always get receipts for payments.

b) Public
On job, collect revenues & disburse money, trust,
regular scrutiny and audit.
 No misappropriations
• Follow rules/regulations
• Receipts deposited in Govt. Treasury
• Assessment without compromise and personal benefits
• You are financially responsible for public money
entrusted to your charge; also liable to make good any
losses incurred due to your negligence

Mess Regulations

i) General

 Bachelor officer’s home, keep it neat & clean

 Use dignified language

ii) A Few courtesies

 When senior officer enters the mess, stand up, wish him,
offer him a chair, be courteous & polite in conversation

iii) A Few Donts:
 Crowd around the Chief Guest
 Card games with stakes, low jokes
 Guest without permission
 Ragging
 Cliques
 Mistreat mess staff

iv) Tidiness: Keep mess in order. Don’t drop cigarette ends


on the floor

 Café bills must be paid promptly

v) Formal Dinners

 Be there 15 minutes before, look after guests

 Every probationer is a host

 Probationary officers appointed to escort guests/faculty, to


receive them at entrance & remain in attendance, look
after them and on conclusion see them off

 Don’t monopolize or leave them abruptly.

 On announcement of dinner, the PMC to take
guest/senior officer present to dinner. Don’t sit down
until the senior officer/guest is seated

 The senior officer/guest is to leave first after the dinner,


the PMC to leave at the end

 Don’t leave until the guests have left

 The probationary officers have no authority to


reprimand a mess employee. They can report the
matter to the President, Secretary or member of the
Mess Committee. Don’t use intemperate language

Guidelines for Lady Officers
i) Portray professional image of a civil servant
ii) Simplicity and elegance in appearance and dress

iii) Should not expect preferential treatment, rough it out


with the rest
iv) Courtesy and equanimity towards male colleagues
v) Proper deference to senior colleagues
vi) Must take active part in sports & co-curriculur activities
and excel in them.

A Few Donts

 Rude with subordinates rather address them by their


names

 Favouritism, unjust & partial

 Curb subordinates initiative rather channelise it

 Loose your sense of humour

 Give vague orders

 Forget all your orders have to be lawful

Conduct in Private Affairs

i) Don’t discuss official matters in private /at home

ii) Don’t fail to address officials correctly even in informal


invitations

i) You should not conduct yourself in a manner which is


likely to cause offence to others

i) Be appropriately dressed, formal clothes on formal


occassions. But don’t dress loudly even on informal
occasions
