Elements of Fashion:

The component and elements in any apparel which

gives a fashion look to that are elements of
fashion.
Like in shirt the elements of fashion are.
Collar
Cuff
Placket
Pocket
Yoke
Motif

Motif constitutes a unit that serves to form a pattern, while the

element of repetition helps to form the design. Philips and
Bunce have said:

“A pattern can be defined as a design composed of one or more

motifs, multiplied and arranged in an orderly sequence, and a
single motif as a unit with which the designer composes a
pattern by repeating it at regular intervals over a surface”
Motif Analysis

 Motif analysis is the analysis of element of a pattern, a

theme or an image. It may have a repeated design or
composition or it may be unique and appear in only one
piece of art work. A motif may be repeated in a design or
composition, often many times, or may just occur once in a
work.

 The analysis of design into a number of deferent elements,

which can be called motif analysis. These may often, as in
leather products design, be repeated many times in a pattern
Value Addition

 The enhancement added to a product or service by a

company before the product is offered to customers.

 Value added refers to the additional value of a commodity

over the cost of commodities used to produce it from the
previous stage of production. The value added to any
product or service as the result of a particular process.

A broad definition of value addition is to economically add value to a

product and form characteristics more preferred in the market place.
There are two main types of value addition:
1.Innovation:
Innovation focuses on improving existing process, procedures,
products and services or creating new one.
2. Coordination:
Coordination focuses on arrangements among those that produce and
market farm products.
Logo design

A logo is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by

commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to
aid and promote instant public recognition.

 Logo design is an important area of graphic design and one

of the most difficult to perfect. The logo is the image
embodying an organization.

 Because logos are meant to represent companies brands or

corporate identities and foster their immediate customer.
Recognition, it is counterproductive to frequently redesign
logos.
Cultural Value in design

Design and culture have always been closely interrelated.

Design has become the embodiment of a larger process of
creative “culture - mongering” that has become a means to
capture ideation, innovation and enterprise and made to stand
for cultural identity.

We consider the relationship between culture and design

process and product as dynamic:

 The existing cultures of the end-users should be analysed

because it influence the design process and hence the resulting
system. If the system does not fit the culture then there is a high
probability that the system will fail in supporting the tasks and
the users.

 Consequently, if the culture is changing, for example in the case

of a business that is developing and changing its goals or
processes, the technology needs to change in order to fit the new
cultures.
Continue..

 On the other hand, because culture is socially constructed

the new system will induce changes in the culture of the
users. Thus, in designing information technology it is
necessary to take into account the way this new technology
can influence and change the culture.

 The influence of the new system in the end-users culture can

balance between fit change and initiation of a new culture:
Continue..

 In designing for an organization that does not want to change too

many things, the new system should be designed to fit with the
current culture.
 In other cases the new technology can change the culture,
organization, procedures and workflow of the way mobile
telephones changed our work relations and even our personal
relationship
 3. There are eases in which the product of the design is
developed for the future. In these cases with the design of the
new system the designers are initiation a new user’s culture.
