Q 1
In Limit State Design of Reinforced Concrete
Structures, as per the IS 456 code book, the
shape of the STRESS BLOCK diagram for the
compression zone of RCC beams is

A Rectangular
B Triangular
C Rectangular combined with Parabolic
D No specific shape; depends on the actual cross
section and loads
A 1 STRESS BLOCK Shape
Q 2
For RCC elements with heavily congested
reinforcement, the best suitable type of
concrete to avoid honeycomb is
A FRC
B SCC
C FERROCEMENT
D Any concrete type cannot solve
honeycombing problem
Q 3
Among the types of reinforcements,
the type TMT means
A Twisted Malleable Torsioned
B Temperature Maintained Twisted

C Thermo-Mechanically Treated

D Tailor-Made Twisted
Q 4
In a lap joint for two steel plates connected by
rivets, the rivets have the chance to fail by
A Single Shear

B Double Shear

C Whether shear is Single or Double depends

on the overlap length and No. of rivets
D Data insufficient to find
whether shear will be single or double
Q 5
In Prestressed Concrete, the colloquial term PT
Slab mostly refers to
A Prestressed TENDON Slab
B PRE-Tensioned Prestressed Slab

C POST – Tensioned Slab

D Both PRE and POST Tensioned Slabs

– any one
Q 6
In the manufacturing of Fly Ash Bricks, after mixing,
moulding and compressing of the FaL- G mix, TO
ACTIVATE THE CHEMICAL REACTION
A The bricks are burnt in kilns
B There is no need for firing or burning in kilns
C bricks don’t require firing; however some
manufacturers fire the bricks in kilns to achieve
higher strength
D There is no chemical reaction at all in the
manufacturing process of FaL-G bricks; only the
compression gives the strength to the bricks
Q 7
The folding or moving bridge in
Rameswaram for the railway track across
the sea is called as
A BASCULE Bridge
B BAILEY Bridge
C PONTOON Bridge
D Tilting Bridge

Q
The pipe used for conveying concrete in
underwater construction is called as
A TRANSPORT Pipe
B TRANSMISSION Pipe
C TREMIE Pipe
D TRENCH Pipe

Q
In RMC, if the concrete has to be transported for longer
distances from PLANT to SITE, then which type of chemical
admixture will be required?
A ACCELERATING Chemical
B RETARDING Chemical
C FOAMING AGENT Chemical
D
WATER PROOFING Chemical
Q
The main TECHNICAL purpose of providing FROG in one of the
brick faces is to

A Reduce the quantity of the raw materials

B Just provide a decorative effect in walls left WITHOUT

Plastering
C Provide a DEPRESSED space for placing the embossed
letters of the manaufacturer’s company name, so that the
embossed letters do not raise above the brick surface

D Form a MECHANICAL KEY between two adjacent bricks

placed one above the other
Define the term Frog
The term FROG relates top Bricks
It is a small depression / indentation of about ½ inch depth, of rectangular shape and
placed on the Longitudinal face of the brick.
The frog serves two purposes
i) to carry the brand name of the brick manufacturer
ii) to serve as a MECHANICAL INTERLOCK KEY between this brick and the
upper
brick, formed by the Cement Mortar filling the surfaces between the two bricks and also
filled into the frog space. This shear key improves the Bond between the two bricks.
This cement mortar fill key acts as a Shear Slide Resistant between the two bricks.
Q
n the design and certification of Green Buildings, the
LEED certificate is issued in the form of Gold, Silver, etc.
LEED stands for
A Leadership in Evaporation and Exhaust Design
B Leadership in Eco-friendly & Energy Efficient Design
C Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design
D Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Q
In Traffic Engg. the acronym PIEV
stands for
A Passenger – Intersection – Entry / Exit - Velocity
B Perception-Intellection –Emotion – Volition
C Passenger Information for Emergency Vehicle
D Drivers’ Perception at Intersections for Emergency
Stopping of Vehicles
In Airport Runways, at the two opposite ends, two
numbers are marked to indicate the Magnetic Bearing
of the direction of alignment of the runway.
The numerical difference between these two numbers
is always
A 180
B 18
C 0
D No such common / standard relationship;
NUMERICAL difference may vary from runway to runway
HOW ARE RUNWAY NUMBERS ASSIGNED?
Plainly put, airport runways are numbered
according to compass bearings. This means
runway numbers are based on the compass
with 360 representing north, 90 representing
east, 180 representing south, and 270
representing west. Runways are numbered
between 01 and 36.
• Every airport runway has 2 numbers on it — h
