Introduction

Natural disaster is a common phenomena in the world and we are all

familiar with natural disaster which can hinder normal human life. After
natural disaster rescue workers work to rescue people, animal, and asset
etc. But they are not quietly capable to rescue something in time. Besides
natural disaster, accidents may be happened. We saw “Rana Plaza” tragedy
that had happened to our country. Sometimes Military people have to
diffuse bomb. With hand, it is tough task because have a confusion whether
bomb is going to blast.

With keeping in mind of above situations, we have designed a robot which

can be controlled remotely where human can not access easily to rescue
people and other things.
Objectives
We have some specific objectives for this project and they are pointed
below:

• To design and construct an Android robot.

• To design a Robotic arm
• Merge them together and control simultaneously
Methodology
Our methodology for the project:

• Creating an idea for design and construction of a Rescue Robot. And

designing a block diagram & circuit diagram to know which
components we need to construct it.
• Collecting all the components and programming the Arduino to
control the whole system.
• Assembling all the blocks in a board and to run the system & for
checking purposes.
Executive Summary

We have made a “Rescue Robot” with a robotic arm which can be

controlled remotely by using an Android application. Our robot may
go to some specific place to rescue people or some valuable things
where human are not capable. Natural disaster is common
phenomena in the world, we are all also know about “Rana Plaza
Tragedy”. Our robot is built with concern of that kind of tragedy. Its
main parts are four wheels, 360 degree rotating robotic arm,
Arduino, and an Android application. Android application can
communicate with Arduino and give necessary command to
Arduino. As a consequence, Arduino sends signal to Robotic arm/
wheel etc.

Description
Li-po Battery
• A lithium polymer battery, or more correctly lithium-ion polymer battery is a
rechargeable battery of lithium-ion technology using a polymer electrolyte
instead of a liquid electrolyte. High conductivity semisolid (gel) polymers form
this electrolyte. These batteries provide higher specific energy than other
lithium battery types and are used in applications where weight is a critical
feature, such as mobile devices, radio-controlled aircraft and some electric
vehicles.

Arduino Uno
• The Arduino Uno is an open-source microcontroller board based on the
Microchip ATmega328P microcontroller and developed by Arduino.cc. The
board is equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output pins that may be
interfaced to various expansion boards and other circuits

Gear Motor
• A gear motor is an all-in-one combination of a motor and gearbox. The
addition of a gear head to a motor reduces the speed while increasing the
torque output. Most of our DC motors can be complimented with one of
our unique gearheads, providing you with a highly efficient gear motor
solution.

Wheel
• 65 mm Rubber tire wheel.

Servo Motor
• A servomotor is a rotary actuator or linear actuator that allows for precise
control of angular or linear position, velocity and acceleration. It consists of a
suitable motor coupled to a sensor for position feedback.

Motor driver IC
• This L298N Motor Driver Module is a high power motor driver module for driving DC and
Stepper Motors. This module consists of an L298 motor driver IC and a 78M05 5V
regulator. L298N Module can control up to 4 DC motors, or 2 DC motors with directional
and speed control
• The L298 is a dual H-Bridge motor driver which allows speed and direction control of DC
motors.

Bluetooth Module
• The Bluetooth technology manages the communication channel of the wireless
part. The Bluetooth modules can transmit and receives the data wirelessly by
using two devices. The Bluetooth module can receive and transmits the data
from a host system with the help of the host controller interface (HCI).

5V Voltage Regulator
• Voltage sources in a circuit may have fluctuations resulting in not providing
fixed voltage outputs. A voltage regulator IC maintains the output voltage at a
constant value. 7805 IC, a member of 78xx series of fixed linear voltage
regulators used to maintain such fluctuations, is a popular voltage regulator
integrated circuit (IC). The xx in 78xx indicates the output voltage it provides.
7805 IC provides +5 volts regulated power supply with provisions to add a
heat sink.

Wire
• Jumper Wire male to male and male to female. These are Jumper wire male to
male, used in connecting female header pin of any developemnt board (like
Arduino) to other development board or breadboard. Also you can combined it
with our Female jumper wire to create Male to Female jumper wire.

Bread Board
• A thin plastic board used to hold electronic components (transistors,
resistors, chips, etc.) that are wired together. Used to develop prototypes of
electronic circuits, breadboards can be reused for future jobs.

Block Diagram
The simplified block diagram of our project is shown below:

Circuit Diagram
Given below is the simplified circuit diagram of our project. It contains the gear motor ,
Arduino Uno, Bluetooth controller, Servo motor, Li-po battery etc.

Working Principle

• Using Android application, sends command to Bluetooth

module. Bluetooth module is connected to Arduino by wire.
According to the command which one is given to Bluetooth
module, Arduino gives the signal to motor driver IC to
move robot any specific direction or servo motor to rotate
the robotic arm. While motor driver IC gets signal from
Arduino, it gives necessary voltage to the motors. Left side
and right side motors are connected parallelly and work
simultaneously.

Applications
The application areas for this project in this modern and practical world are
huge and some of these are given below:
• It can be used in any remote work where humans are unable to do.
• It can be used as military purpose to diffuse a bomb.
• It can be used to rescue people who get in trouble.
• It can be used to move heavy object from one place to another.
Advantages
There are many advantages of our project because of its accuracy. Some of the
advantages are pointed out below:
• This project is easy to use
• Cost effective
• No foul play takes place
• Easily can move object
• Its arm can grip anything
Limitations
No project is without its limitations and ours is no exception from that but the
final output we received from our project is quite satisfactory. Listed below, are
some of the limitations we have:
• We don’t have a camera to see remotely
• This project can now be only used for small scale purposes
• Robotic arm is not quiet effective
Future Scope of Work
As we have already discussed about the limitations of our project so definitely
there’s room for improvement and thus we have lots of future scope of work
available to us for this project. Some of these are listed below:
• In future, we will add a camera to see from remote area
• In future, we will improve our robotic arm design.
Discussion
Nowadays robotics is become popular and human workers are replaced by
robots or other automation machines. Although our robot is controlled by
human but it may work in such a conditions where humans are unable to do
in body present.
Conclusion

A rescue robot is a robot designed to aid in the search and rescue of humans.
They may assist rescue efforts by searching, mapping, removing rubble,
delivering supplies, providing medical treatment or evacuating casualties.
Some of the areas where robots have been implemented to aid in SAR
efforts: Mapping and maneuvering of disaster areas after natural calamities,
terror attacks, accidents, explosions, etc. Robots are also providing assistance
to firefighters worldwide. Bomb squads are using AI to aid in defusal and
disposal missions. It has versatile advantage.
