COURSE TITLE : AGRICULTURAL CROPS PRODUCTION

NOMINAL DURATION : 540 hours

QUALIFICATION : NC III

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitude


in
AGRICULTURAL CROPS PRODUCTION NC III in accordance with industry standards. In
general, it covers core competencies in undertaking preparation of land for agricultural crop
production, implementing a post-harvest program, implementing a plant nutrition program,
controlling weeds and preparing and applying chemicals. In agronomy, it covers core
competencies in establishing agronomic crops, undertaking agronomic crop maintenance
activities, undertaking agronomic crop harvesting activities, saving, preparing and storing
agricultural seed and implementing vertebrate pest control program.
To obtain this, all units prescribed for this qualification must be
achieved.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS :

Trainees or students wishing to enroll in this course should possess the following
requirements.

LO3. STORE SEED

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

 The storage facilities to be used are selected and hygienically prepared


according to good warehousing practices.
 Seed is transferred and stored according to the organizations OHS and
hygiene guidelines in conditions that maintain its quality and germination
 capacity. Periodical checks of seed in long-term storage are conducted for
quality factors and viability according to enterprise requirements.
 Seed samples for laboratory testing are taken, prepared and forwarded as
required following organizational sampling procedures and analyzed according
to prescribed guidelines.
 Clear and accurate records of seed storage, tests and inspections are
created, maintained and kept as prescribed in the seed storage program.
 The condition of storage facilities is monitored following the schedule
and methods outlined in the seed storage program.
 Appropriate corrective action is taken as required to maintain seed quality
in accordance with enterprise requirements.
 Activities around the seed storage facilities are undertaken according to the
OHS guidelines detailed in the seed storage program.

 Seed is sold or purchased in conformance to local legislation and
regulations. The inter-municipal movement of seeds is done in accordance
with local legislation and regulations.

PROGRAM

MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This module covers the skills, knowledge and


attitudes
required to plan and implement a strategy for the control of
vertebrate pests in a rural environment. It requires the
application of knowledge and skills to assess the severity of
pest infestation and determine methods and applications for
the effective control of vertebrate pests without harm to other
species or the environment. Competency requires an
awareness of legislative requirements with regard to animal
welfare, biosecurity, safety and environmental protection.

protection manuals and in accordance with organizational procedures.

 Integrated health management is considered and implemented as required
in accordance with OHS requirements.
