 Using Punctuation

• Yesterday we learned to put finger spaces between each

word in our sentence so our readers can read our writing
more easily.
• Today I want to teach you another writing rule that will
help people read your work!

 Using Punctuation

• At the end of your sentence we need to put a punctuation mark

to show that the sentence is finished.
• There are 3 punctuation marks you can use. Most of the time
you will use a period.
• For example i want to write “I am playing with my friend Carly.”
• Now I am at the end, so I am going to put my period here.
Remember to make it a small dot right after you last letter.

• Now let’s say I want to show that I am really excited about

going to the beach and want to write “I am going to the
beach!”.
• I would use an exclamation mark to show that I am
excited! It looks like this !
• Now my reader will know I am super excited to go to the
beach!

• The last punctuation mark i want to show you is the

question mark.
• This is what it looks like ?.
• You use a question mark at the end of a question sentence.

• Right! Today we are going to practice putting the right

punctuation mark at the end of sentences.
• Put 1 finger up if you think the punctuation mark should be
a period,
• 2 fingers if you think it should be an exclamation mark and
• 3 fingers if you think it should be a question mark.
