Melting
Melting is a process that causes a substance to change from a solid to a liquid.
Melting
Melting occurs when the molecules of a solid speed up enough that the motion
overcomes the attractions so that the molecules can move past each other as a
liquid.
Melting Point
The melting point of a solid is the
temperature at which it changes from a
solid to a liquid.

At the melting point liquid and solid

states of matter exist at the same time.
Freezing Point
Adding water to ice
Adding salt to ice lowers the
temperature of the ice.

It also changes the melting point.

The ice now melts at a lower

temperature.
The cream
The particles in the cream lose energy to
the ice. The ice particles absorb the
energy from the particles in the cream
and this causes the ice to start to melt.

Because the particles in the creams is

losing energy they are unable to
overcome the strong forces of attraction
between the cream particles and they
change state from a liquid to a solid.
