CHANGING HOW INFORMATION
IS DISPLAYED

When you work with files and folders on your


computer, you may find that you need to change
how information is viewed on the screen. There
are so many view mode that you can select.
CHANGING THE APPEARANCE OF
THE DISPLAYED INFORMATION
1. Click the Start button and select My Computer
2. Navigate and open Local Drive C, Local Drive
C appears
3. From the Menu Bar click VIEW, select what
kind of view you want to apply, if its
 Thumbnails,
 Icons, Tiles,
 List or
 Details
OR

1. From the standard toolbar click the dropdown button


beside the view button then select what kind of
views you want to apply
DIFFERENT METHOD
OF VIEWING ITEMS

Normally, both the My Computer window and


Windows Explorer Show you the contents of a
folder as a large icons that represent other
folders and files. This is a friendly way to view
folders, but not always the most useful,
especially if a folder contains large numbers of
files or many files with similar names.

ICONS

• Files and folders are displayed as icons.


This is a good view when your learning
how to use Windows or have trouble
clicking a file with the mouse.
TILES

• Files and folders are displayed as icons, but


with more information. The type and size of a
file is displayed to the right of the icon.
LIST

Files and folder are displayed


as small icons in a list. This is
a great default view, because
it allows you to see as many
files as possible.
DETAILS
• Displays information about every file and folder, such
as its name, size, type, and when it was last modified
is displayed.
THUMBNAILS

Thumbnails view is useful if


you are working with pictures
and graphics because it
previews every graphic file
instead of only displaying an
unhelpful file name.
SELECTING MULTIPLE FILES AND
FOLDERS
• You know that you must select a file or folder before
you can do something to it, such as move or delete it.
You will learn now on how to select more than one
file and/ or folder at a time, so you can move, copy,
or delete a group of files at the same time.
TO SELECT MULTIPLE FILES

1. If the file are next to each other you can click and drag
a rectangle around the files you want to select.
OR
1. If the files are next to each other you can click the first
file you want to select, press and hold down the
SHIFT key and click the last file you want to select.
2. If the files aren’t next to each other you can select
random files by holding the Ctrl key and clicking the
files you want to select.
• Selecting multiple files and folders using the click and
drag.
• Selecting multiple files and folder using the SHIFT key
from the keyboard.
• Selecting multiple files and folder using the Ctrl key from
the keyboard.

SEARCH COMPANION
TO SEARCH A FILE USING THE
SEARCH COMPANION

1. Click the Start button and click Search, the search


window appear
2. On the left side of the monitor you can find there a
search companion guide, these will ask some
questions about what you’re going to search.
3. Click the specific file you want to search, if you
want to search on picture you click on the picture,
music or video link.
4. If you’re going to search for some music, check the
music box, and then type the file name or the title
of the music that you’re searching.
5. Then click search button, it will now start searching
for the file, when the search file appears just double
click the music.

TO VIEW THE CONTENTS OF A
DRIVE OR FOLDER

Click the drive or folder in the left folder pane—the


contents of that drive or folder will appear in the right
pane.
TO DISPLAY OR HIDE A DRIVE OR
FOLDER’S SUBFOLDERS

A plus symbol (+) next to A minus symbol (-) next to


a folder indicates that all a folder indicates that all
