Ratio is used to compare two or more


quantities. Quantities involved in ratio are of the
same kind so that ratio does not make use of
units. However, when quantities are of different
kinds, the comparison of the quantities that
consider the units is called rate.

Steps in solving proportion:

To check if the ratios a∶b and c∶d are proportional:


1. Multiply the first term with the last term: (a)(d)
2. Multiply the second term with the third term: (b)
(c)
3. If the product of the extreme terms is equal to the
product of the mean terms, then the ratios are
proportional: (a)(d)=(b)(c)
