Who are our learners in the Open High
School Program?
The OHSS shall be open to all youth and adults who have
finished elementary education, as well as high school
qualifiers of the Philippine Educational Placement Test
(PEPT) and the Alternative Learning System (ALS)
Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test.

Enables learners who are:

1. Drop-outs from the Elementary and Secondary Schools


for at least one (1) year
2. Have never attended a formal school
3. Presently employed and need to upgrade their academic
level

Teaching Staff
The Open High School Teachers and Teacher
Advisers who shall render service under the
OHSS shall be enlisted from those who are
currently teaching in the mother high school
that is implementing the program.

What do we teach at the Open learners?
The OHSS shall adopt the K to 12 Enhanced Basic
Education Curriculum using the standards and
learning competencies of different subject areas of
the program.

1. Independent Learning Readines Assessment

A. Transition Program - school-based, teacher-guided, and


self-paced.
B. Blended Learning Program - school-based, face-to-face
learning, and distance learning
C. Independent Learning Program - home-school

2. Learning Contract

The contract commits the parents/guardians to ensuring


that their children complete their education as well as to
commit the school to ensuring that the learners will be
supported properly.

What are the issues and challenges in
implementing the Open High School
Program?
 This design inadvertently created the impression that the
program was for at-risk students only.
 Since the program is ideal if the students can have
access to varities of multi-media materials, this became
limited in public school because of the inavailability of
digital media.
The learners must be ready for self-
directed learning

Success of The program must be owned by the


OHSP school and community

A rigid monitoring and evaluation


system must be in place
